All the other Barnet reissues are dubs of earlier LPs or 78s....except the old Victor Vintage series. They had 2 LPs of choice Barnet material. If someone wants the 2 I have for sale, it will cost you 12 bucks and I will pay the postage to anywhere in the USA. Each LP has 16 tracks on it. Want 'em? ...

How about geting some of the old RCA Vintage LPs which had great sound and burnihg your own CDs?

I have 2 of them for sale and they cover the 1939 - 1942 period - all from Bluebird when his band was at it's zenith.

I think a lot of marketing is generationally focused and generated. A lot of people who used to buy jazz, swing and big bands are now dead or not buying anything or have switched over to CDs. The people who work at the companies that control the material are oftimes younger and the old music is larg...

I agree....and for an example....look at the very insular people who revel in either Silent Cinema or....even more so.....to the popular music that predates the 1920s. They are a small, but avid group, but they are virtually invisible. If Ian Whitcombe were not here in town, there would be little pu...

Webb's band kept getting better and better as the 30s rolled on.

I think most people will likely agree thatr his recordings from the 1937 - 1938 era best reflect what his band did...on record, at least. It's a much tighter band than the band of 34 or 35 or 36.

I think subscriptions are the future, cheap and easy access to music on demand will narrow the gap between legal and pirated music. Thre have been subscription plans before by record producers who wanted cahs up front before they pressed limited edition LPs or CDs. I know this is a different type o...

As a longime former music and video retailer, all this is very sad news to me. While I can appreciate the 'ease' of shopping on line. I dont really like it. I went into a 'record' store the other day for the first time in ages. Canterbury in Pasadena...and it was so cool to see all this live stock i...

Those are the names I have recalled reading on liner notes and other such sources.

BTW -Van Alexander did a number of swing big band recreations in the 50s and maybe 60s. Not bad. Capitol records stuff. I think he used some ex Webb sidemen mixed in with the usual studio gig guys.

A lot of those arragements were done by Fletcher Hendersen, and they are incredible. You are right- the book itself is a part of the attraction for the Webb Orch. Are you sure about that? Smack doing charts for Chick? I know he was using Van Alexander and Larry Clinton and others. I just don't reca...

"Great" is a cheesy word. He had first class soloists, his section work was good, charts were good, Ella, drums.

Does anyone seriously think Chick Webb had a great band?

So asked a noted writer on the swing scene and swing music and such.

I replied, "Yes".

I will try and get him over here if he cares to continue the conversation.

oh, yeah. He can pop for 20 bucks no problem. I will tell him and see if it's the one tune or the whole lp/cd he wants.

thanx again
