It can get a lot worse than loving Harry James - I'm told my grandparents were big Wayne King fans.

I think I've got that one too, and I gave up on the idea that I'd ever use anything on it... here's my contribution: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008YO90.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Musically, man, I bet it's killer.. but since they're basically nothing but the drum mic, it's a little hard to tell. (the...

Without actually understanding all the technology underneath, I think there's still an issue of processing power.. my turntable does pitch-corrected tempo changing up to 50%, but it starts sounding like a 50's robot if you low it down too far.. (or maybe that's inevitable) I wouldn't use it for anyt...

Everything they said - plus, look for smiles.. a lot of peopple just dont ever smile, granted, but if you scan dancers and don't see anyone smiling, maybe try something different for the next song..

When Kevin Tamura and I do 'em it's really just cooperative - the only competition is over who gets the most "Damn, what was that?" questions..

I got a big crowd of dancers to turn out 3 or 4 years ago when the PSTS flew in Hal Smith's Roadrunners..

I remember it was the funniest thing when we were all too tuckered out to dance to Crazy Capers - so there was nobody on the floor under 70. :)

oh, right, yeah, I figured it wasn't necessary to point out that we aren't scratch djs. Yeah, more craft than art. It's the "historian dj" term that I find offensive... phasing a question "are we creative, or just historians" would be throwing just as much a bomb as if I asked, &...

I think it's a little bit of a false dichotomy - I've heard argentine tango djs with vastly different styles. A DJ isn't a replacement for a band because they can create art, and all we can do it "hang it on the walls", so to speak. Your comment seems to me to show a common misconception t...

'if its obscure its obscure for a reason'. with so many small labels recording great jazz musicians, and so much good music going in and out of print, that really doesn't apply to our music. 2) switch styles up more often than every half hour or hour. Amen. I think it's harder to move quickly betwe...

One could avoid these issues entirely by playing music played by musicians who played for dancers. *runs away cackling* The songs I really wanna edit right now are some of the 7 minute tunes on Rex Stewart's Fletcher Henderson Reunion and the 16 minute Panama Francis & the Savoy Sultans recordi...

That's how I feel about bass solos.. I hate it when it's an otherwise great song.. last sunday I saw a new-ish couple stop during a bass solo to get a drink of water, then start up again once the interestingness resumed.. that seemed like an awfully good use of the time.
