I don't recognise that - nice track though. The 'sound' is familiar. It's a small group and I'm guessing it's 1940s or 1950s.

I've recently been stalked by the emusic people twitter - public messages and DMs asking me what my specific problems with their site are. Because they want to help me. I don't have the patience to explain why their new site is so slow to load and annoying to navigate. Someone needs to tell them th...

Re: DJ Administration

So I'll just start with this: What's the most useful thing you've learnt about coordinating DJs for events, or about being a DJ working on an event (and dealing with coordinators)? ... I'm not entirely happy with how I do things, so I'm interested in other people's approaches. My goal: mo professio...

Re: Making Playlists In Advance

I have a gig coming up next week, and I decided to make a playlist in advance this time. I kept thinking if I was some sort of "respond to the floor" purist, I wouldn't do this. But now I think plenty of DJs I love dancing to have playlists and just tweak them in response to the floor. Bu...

Pretty sure it's not 'The Fox'. You recorded a nice swinging version - but I'm foxed as to what it is.

Re: Scenes in a English dance hall - 1938

No idea - sorry. I like the dance clips from the film though - set in a 'Palais de Dance' (fancy name for Dance Hall) of which there were many in British towns in the early 20th Century. I think the interior they use in the film might be a studio set, but I think it was fairly typical of the classi...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPuTeGoDVTw&feature=related @ the 41:30, 45:30 and 55:00 - so far. Anyone know the tune at the 55:00 mark? Very familiar. *Ooops. Got it! Fats Waller also recorded it. This film is quite good. Better than many Brit films of the era. THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT - No relati...

I'm not certain, but I've got a feeling that I've got this box set, and, while the music is great, the sound has been 'cleaned up' and 'processed' in a way which makes it sound like a cheap electronic copy. I'll try and find it at home to confirm this.

Actually on checking this, I'm wrong - most tracks are good sounding record releases, and some of the later stuff is live. It's well worth getting.

I sent an email to Scott at Mosaic Records about the possibility of them doing this material in a Mosaic box set. He replied saying that, whilst they have next year planned out already, a Tommy Dorsey set is something that they have been considering. Great stuff :) This Readers Digest CD has top so...

Yes, good stuff Anton. I've got a few of these numbers, and they're good stuff, but I've found them scattered all over the place on different CDs and occasional downloads. I'll try and cross-reference where I've got them from and put some details here.
