ok, here is another question. It might have been answered before but I just don't feel like browsing through 16 pages to look for an answer When I am DJ'ing with my laptop I usually have it fully charged to avoid any power failures. Furthermore, if the laptop is plugged in I constantly hear a buzzin...

I don't play for particular individuals. However I do adapt to the level of people on the room. The music I play at the beginning of the night is definitely different from what I play towards the end since I see mostly beginners vs seasoned dancers. However, one individual does not make me want to p...

The version which I started to like recently is from one of our local bands. AS a matter of fact I played it last night. Corny name, but good sounds: Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz

As a rule of thumb, I never play anything I wouldn't dance to.

Graveyard Shift

I recently DJ'd at the Knoxville Lindy Exchange. This is a relatively small exchange and a lot of the attendees traveled from nearby cities (in other words drove there). On Friday Late Night they had two rooms going on and I was asked to DJ the last shift on the Friday Night Dance. I believe it was ...

WHen I first started DJ'ing weddings it was nerve wrecking at first (specially dry/non-alcoholic weddings where nobody dances...yikes!!). I do not enjoy it, but it pays decently. The worse is that it kills most weekends, specially during the Spring Season. Before the wedding I will talk briefly with...

Sellout. Well, if DJing from a laptop is selling out then count me in. I made the transition last month; it's much nicer than the old CD route. Ditto...I find it much more simple and flexible than CD's. Although I do like the DJ'ing from CD's because it makes me feel like an old timer DJ. DJ'ing fr...

The best feeling EVER as a dj is to be DJing a band break and on your last song, the band just picks up and starts playing the song. Perfect transition, its such a kick ass feeling. Moist definitely, we have a couple of bands in Atlanta that have done that several times when I have DJ'd between the...

Yesterday I decided to step into laptop DJ'ing for good. Carrying my books around was starting be a pain in the neck (and back) and I already carry my laptop with me everywhere I go. I bought Creative Labs MP3+ from Best Buy. It is' originally about $40 but this week has a $10 instant rebate + a $10...

They are illegal compilations done by a European and thus not commercially available in the U.S. They began in 1995 or 1996 or so, and are perhaps the most widespread illegal compilations of copyrighted music in the Lindy world. Interesting you say that because this came to my attention when I was ...

First and foremost you have to cater to the audience you are playing for. Your role as a DJ is to be able to find out what they want and provide it to them. I usually would start with similar, yet different, songs than the band played in the previous sets (I know that's vague and open to interpretat...
