Re: The Swinger hacks any song to... swing

Does anyone have this working? Years ago, I tried to install it to re-make the swing-i-fied version of "Every Breath You Take" for a music class I was teaching, but I couldn't get it to work, alas. I do have a working installation, yes. Although I can't quite remember how I did it :) I ca...

Yes. Grab it here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21055225/swinger.py.zip That's just the python source for the swinger, not for the associated echonest libraries - I'm not sure if it'll work with the up to date versions, so give me a shout if you need the right ones (it'll take me a while to p...

Been listening to Fats Waller Doesn't Sing! - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fats-Waller-Doesnt-Sing-Classics/dp/B00005O13V/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394308248&sr=8-1&keywords=fats+waller+doesn%27t+sing Looks like I snagged the last cheap(ish) copy... I have to say - it's a lot better - the echo ...

I don't think so - I can't see anything to suggest it is.

Re: Robert Parker on 1926 78rpm record restoration

Thx! For me, I like the third one best. The middle one is way too flat. The parker is Ok until Ivie begins to sing and then the echo on there becomes too pronounced. On echo-y stuff, I used to try to pretend i was in a concert hall listening, but it never seemed to work. So on the Parker stuff - if...

Re: OT - I think I 'joined' Spotify

10 dollars is worth it if you are using it a lot. Aside from just seeking out random songs, can you create play lists or do they put similar type tunes together for you? Some times it is nice to be surprised. You can create playlists - and you can also create playlists for offline use (still using ...

Re: Robert Parker on 1926 78rpm record restoration

Thought I'd trial a new sound editor. So I've taken three different releases of the same recording of Ellington's Don't Mean a Thing, and put together a quick demo switching between them. It begins and ends with the Robert Parker one from this album: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Robert-Parker-Classic-Dig...

The first one's arrived - it does sound good. I'll try to post a couple of comparisons this evening.

Looks like you can still get a lot of the CDs he produced on Amazon. I've ordered a couple out of curiosity.

Although I'm not sure about the pricing on this one  :

Re: Chick Webb documentary - anyone seen it yet?

I hope we are both wrong about that, but I sometimes get the feeling that the limited interest in such topics grows less and less as more time goes by. Do you really think that today's dancers would care much about this? I think they would - certainly judging by our neck of the woods. The populatio...

I'm not convinced it is Wynton Marsalis - I've only ever found the one version of his, and this is very different.

But whoever it is, I want it....

Re: Question about music history and development

Are you sure it wasn't "taught the Henderson band how to swing" ? For his part, Duke Ellington did talk about wishing he could have a Louis Armstrong in every seat in his band. Yeah - I confused two different parts of the documentary. The part I was thinking of did refer to Henderson's ba...
