Re: mosaic sets
Just logged on the say that this is a great set - must have! The highlight for me is the Una Mae Carlisle session which has been sourced from metal parts and sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Also has the best quality version of one of my DJ faves; “Goon Drag” by Sam Price and His Texas Bluesic...

Most versions of "After You've Gone" will have a significant tempo/style change. Try the one by Lavern Baker.

If you're a fan of stride piano along the ilk of Fats Waller, you might enjoy the James P Johnson Mosaic set out next month: Classic James P. Johnson Sessions 1921- 1943
Also, the Lester Young set, which should be awesome, will drop in January/February next year.

Re: Recordings of band appearances in vintage radio brodcast
Look for anything titled "Jubilee" broadcasts. They were recordings made for WWII service personnel, and are usually pretty great. A label called Hindsight put out a good box set of these.

I always liked Gunther Schuller's exploration of the definition in "The Swing Era". See The Swing Era on Google books

1. What....you don't own the album The Legendary Buster Smith ??!?!? That is the only one on your "don't own" list that I insist you immediately go out and purchase. Every single song on the album has such a fat soulful swinging groove, played by some fabulous musicians. One of my favorit...

Re: R.I.P. BB King
I am surprised that so few people DJ the Rhythm&Blues dance music from 1945-55 as it was the staple music for swing dancing at the time I actually play quite a bit, as our main weekly social night is to a live band with a Rhythm & Blues vibe. It's lots of fun, and great for getting people e...

Re: Jimmie Lunceford
I misread your request. Some less-played tunes might be: Memphis Rag 1927, 241bpm 'Frisco Fog 1937, 174bpm - perhaps a bit challenging, but good for the right crowd The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down 1937, 149bpm Well Alright Then 1939, 139bpm Pistol Packin' Mama 1944, 172bpm I Need A Lift 1945, 147bpm
