I think part of the reason is that, in terms of live music available today, most swing bands play jazz reflective of post-WWII musical elements mixed in with lots of rat pack type crooner music. There are very few bands that play the way that you or say, Mora's Modern Rhythmists play. Those modern ...

I have to say I'm a bit mystified by everybody going gaga over the Titan Hot Seven. They play loud and fast - is that all anybody cares about anymore? Bob's great, Jeff's great, but honestly rest of the band is just getting by. I guess they do roll around on their backs when playing - guess I've jus...

TIM / Past Perfect
Where can I order some of the Box Sets by TIM / Past Perfect. The Duke "Portrait" one is just great, and I would like to see who else they put out.

I've seen a lot of problems with powered mixers. I'm a big fan of powered speakers - like JBL Eons. They're relatively cheap, they're modular, and you can chain them together. You can use them as speakers, monitors, whatever. Or you can use just one if you need something less. If all you need to do ...

Song quotes / solo quotes as songs.
Here's something I noticed recently. Sweets Edison's solo in "Avenue C" (Basie, 1945), ends up being the melody to "Sweets" (Basie, 1950). Coleman Hawkins solo in "One O'Clock Jump" (Metronome All Star Band, 1941), ends up the melody to "Feedin' the Bean" (Bas...

Nobody answered the actual question! Which Decca set is better? They both have exactly the same songs. They will both have complete personnel listings / session dates, etc. I don't need another Basie bio in liner note form. I suppose the real question is which one has better sound quality? Yakov - w...
