Nope, cuz I'll just get accused of boxing all music in sub-genre's and having a closed mind.

It's easier to just shut up this time:)

must be tough having to determining the sub-genre of song before knowing whether you can dance to it. Guess when I look back on it, it does sound that way. It's not so. Thanks ever-so-much for pointing that out for me, it's spiffy of you to do so. When discussing, I can analyze like anyone else. Wh...

I like all Jazz, except miles and trane and diz and ... Dude, what are you talking about? I love Miles. I said I don't dig bebop that much... which translates that I don't go ga-ga over it like I do other Jazz sub-genre's. Also, to take my quote in context.... I have very specific sub-genre's that ...

Of course, just yesterday I was listening to a Jazz show on the radio, and the host played some "BeBop"... it was definitely swing era, but had that "boppish" feel in the solo sections. The tune itself was pretty much a swing tune. Strange. why strange. most of the major players...

I don't own any BM, but I do MMR... so the answer is obvious.

I like all Jazz, but I dont' like to dance to all Jazz. BM isn't my dance taste, nor my DJ taste :)

I use a laptop, and don't need a portable MP3 player, so I just have a portable USB drive.

I recommend the following drives because they are extremely small, and powered from the USB bus... so you do not have to have anythign but the drive.

1- sorry for the misspelling "Coltrane" :) 2- hellzapoppin, yeah i like that. i said "for the most part" I do realize that there are going to be a few exceptions, i just didn't have time to point them all out. I have a friend who loves the shit, and tries to get me to listen to ...

not a joke. I cannot stand Miles Davis, John Coltrain, Dizzy Gilespie, Slim and Slam, the standard issued stuff from those guys. I have heard one slim gaillard song that i like, and I know that coltrain played in other bands that I like, but i am just talking about what they are known for, what get...

Everyone knows at the binge DJ's were on for hour sets or so... so yes. Especially the guy who gave me a request, he knew for sure. So, if everyone is DJing for an hour, it's impossible to make a request without being rude or violating the Lindy Exchange Prime Directive? No, but you better not be a...

Kyle, to answer your question: if another DJ makes a request to the DJ at the time, I believe it's pretty much the same as someone off the dance floor asking. I've heard a lot of sucky DJ's... ;) It depends on how well you know the person, how much you trust them, and whether you think the requested...

Re: Count Basie Auto

I am reading the Autobiography of Count Basie and absolutely love it. I am almost done, and have had a hard time putting it down. I strongly reccomend this book to any basie afficionado. so, when i'm done I am looking for another book to read, any ideas? I was interested in something maybe ellingto...

Re: Requests

we all know that request some times suck, and that we are not into them all the time. some times we like the song that was requested and sometimes we don't dont have the heart to tell them that Indigo Swing is dead! :) but what about a fellow DJ that comes up and politely makes a request. like: Hey...
