If you want a really in depth analysis of Redman's contribution to Fletcher Henderson's band, check out the new Fletcher Henderson biography, The Uncrowned King of Swing: Fletcher Henderson and Big Band Jazz

I read the chapter on Louis Armstrong's tenure with the band while in the bookstore. There were some interesting insights, but I'll admit that alot of the music theory st...

I can't stand groove music, but why does the alternative have to be Dixie or Trad stuff. What the hell happened to "Swing"? I guess I'm just wondering if anybody actually cares about swing music anymore. I feel like if there's no tuba or washboard, or if there's no organ nobody's interest...

I love this line too: This is nice, but it's something my dad would listen to. Could you play something with some punch? Something that makes you want to jump around? I was going to post this story, but Andy beat me to it. It was a nice challenge trying to figure out what she wanted that ended was ...

I've been talking to a local musician here in DC and he highly recommends checking out the Rhythm Rascals if you have a chance during the festival.

Modern Hot Jazz & Ragtime Music

I don't know if these have been posted before, but I just found a few sites specializing in hot jazz recordings by modern bands. Those of you interested in music similar to the Boilermakers or Mora's Modern Rhythmists should check them out. I haven't gotten anything from them yet, but I'd be interes...

"My Wild Irish Roses"-Chick Webb-Jazz Archives Stompin' At The Savoy 1934/1939

The intro is slow, then the song kicks in ridiculously fast, periocially punctuated with slow breaks.

Just thought I'd pop in and post this article I stumbled upon by a musician based in DC. I thought it was apporpriate since it restates and/or elaborates on some of the technical issues brought up on this thread.
