Sounds like a great idea. I think people are more willing to dance to a variety of stuff when it includes what they like. I agree; I tend to think that if you're one among many DJs on a given night, you have the choice to DJ mostly tunes that you like. But if you're the only DJ, you have to throw i...

I used to play "Rockin' at Midnight" by the Honeydrippers as a last song. Tho' lately I've switched to "Hit the Road Jack" and I guess I usually play the Buster version more than the Ray Charles version. I also have ended the night with Tibetan Monks chanting, that got a mixed r...

My favorite Christmas album is the Ramsey Lewis Trio's More Sounds of Chrismas, from which Jingle Bells, Plum Puddin', and Eggnog are all great.

Unfortunately, it's only out on vinyl and cassette.

That's the Mule CD I mentioned above. Good stuff.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf700/f772/f77204f9n0i.jpg Mostly danceable -- I play "Tomorrow" a lot, esp. on rainy days, and "Close Your Eyes." I also own Mule , which is more boppish but is still very danceable. Come to think of it, very few of the Major Holley stuf...

Bought that a couple of weeks ago -- It's pretty mellow throughout, but has some good stuff on it, including "Don't tell a man about his woman" which I really dig.

The only times that an apostrophe is EVER used in the English language are when forming a contraction ("is not" --> "isn't") and when showing possession ("John's music"). It is never used to form a plural ("DJ's"), nor is it used when conjugating verbs ("...

That seems pretty definitive; I'll use "DJ'ed" and "DJ's."

Two other questions, though:

1.) Plural. Would I refer to multiple DJs, or multiple DJ's.

2.) Posessive. I would refer to a DJ's groupies, right?

Grammar

Working on the booklet for the PittStop III, and realized that I have no idea about the grammar of the term "DJ" (deejay?). I'm interested in both technically correct and common usage.

Cleaning Vinyl

Last night I went to work ripping some records onto my computer. The basic setup was a borrowed audiophile turntable, an Onkyo reciever (& preamp) with optical digital output hooked up to a Creative Extigy. The bottleneck in sound quality was, of course, the cleanliness of the records themselves...

I dig the version on the Jimmy & Wes: The Dynamic Duo - it's a bit long though, at 6:48.

I might add:

Endless Sleep - Jimmy Witherspoon
Satan Takes A Holiday - Duke Ellington at the Bal Masque

Also, what about songs that don't have a spooky title or lyrics, but just sound kinda dark?

Happy Go Lucky Local - Ellington, or Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra
Boody Rumble - Count Basie

I think my current favorite "Wade in the Water" is the Ramsey Lewis version. If you like that one, check out an album called Live at the Bohemian Caverns 1968 by the Young Holt Trio (Lewis' drummer and bassist). Not a dance album, but very funky. Their version is a.k.a. "Wade In The ...

I do it to keep my teenage fanclub happy. Plus if you are good, sometimes they'll take you to a nice restaurant or buy you drinks. But mostly I do it out of a perverse desire to be as cool as Julie, like that'll ever happen.
