I think there are PCMCIA sound cards you can stick in the PC card slot that most lap tops have. Not sure how that works though.

Yeah, my laptop has 3 USB ports and a Firewire port. I'm a bit hesitant to get a USB external due to the relatively slow transfer rate compared to Firewire. I guess the other question is how big a drive I need. I think I have about 10 GBs of music right now. Would 120 GBs be excessive?
