sorry, feet, not yards. It'd easily fit a pair of regulation basketball courts with small bleachers. (basketball courts being my minds way of measuring indoor spaces :).

advice for buying sound equipment

Okay, take 2. (My browser ate my first post). Our local Ballroom dance club has approached me to help them buy some new sound equipment. I know very little. Let me sum up what I have so far. We need an amp, a small mixer, a wireless mic with enough range to cover a 200 feet by 100 feet room and poss...

Let's see...my scene is Corvallis, OR...it's umm...exciting really... We probably have about 100 swing dancers at the beginning level. 20 or so in beginning-intermediate. About 10 of those dance on a regular basis. We used to get nights where 20 of us would drive up to Portland or down to Eugene to ...

Amazon has the set for under 50 used and just over 50 new too. I'm in the process of ordering one now, thanks for reminding me that I wanted to get these Jerry. ;)

I have the MP3 and use the Line Out as the main and the headphones as my monitor. The MP3+ is a much better sound card than what is in my tablets headphone sound card.
er, how did you do this? :)
I'm using Traktor, I'd kill for this setup. :)

It's about 300x150 foot ballroom. Most music sounds fine there, including modern swing, but Basie, Cab Calloway, Ella, etc all sound horrible.

Sounds like I may just have to put up with more Casey, Swing Session, etc until we invest in new gear.

Swing music in large rooms with crappy sound systems

So our local ballroom dance club runs huge dances in our college's Student Union. Waltz, West Coast, Neo-Swing, Hustle...basically everything but classic swing music sounds great. Swing sounds absolutely horrible, you can barely hear the rythm, it sounds like the entire bass line is completely vanis...

Ya, the soundcards in laptops are crap. I can't say exactly WHAT is crappy about them exactly, but there's a very noticible difference in sound quality when I go between my uber-dell internal sound card and my external mp3+. I've HEARD that it has to do w/a serious lack of shielding because of the c...

I've always felt that my first priority was to keep people dancing happilly, however they wish to dance.

Increasing the dancers range of music and tempos should be secondary to that goal.

Of course, I'm new, so if some of the more experienced DJs know differently please educate me.

MusicMonkey: Didnt like it. Took a long time to add music to the program on the initial search, and i'm not sure if it got them all. It said 30k songs, but kept stopping on 8k.
Eeh. I only have 7300 songs...hopefully this won't become a problem for me too soon. :/

I use MediaMonkey to organize my MP3s. It does export playlists/track info to HTML, XML, Excell and CSV, but I haven't attempted to do so, so can't really tell you how well it works. As just a MP3 organizer though I have to say it totally owns any other program I've found. I actually use it for all ...

I'm hardly an expert (for that you might want to chat with D-nice over at the dance-forums) but, it was my understanding that ECS as we now know it is a dumbed down version of lindy hop devised by dance studios to make money off people wanted to learn swing without actually having to struggle to tea...

Andrew Sutton is my new god. I'm going to build a little temple to him in a field somewhere perfectly aligned with the stars. Sweden's a little out of my travel budget though. :(
