OK thanks Nate for the opportunity to segue into the next artist whose name is Tom Baker who did work with Dan Barrett. Tom Baker was a Sydney based trad jazz exponent. He was born in the USA but became an Australian citizen so we claim him as one of our own. He unfortunately died recently at the yo...

Another one of my favourite Sydney jazz guys is Dan Barnett. He sings and plays a mean trombone. He runs a big band that plays once a month at a pub in Balmain. The gig goes off with some of the top players in Sydney there. Unfortunately very little dance space. His website is http://www.danbarnett....

Australian Jazz Resources
I will add to this topic with different great Australian jazz groups that I have used for Djing or danced to. The first featured group is John Morrison's Swing City. They are a professional big band based in Sydney Australia. They were featured in the Sydney Olympic opening ceremony. They mainly do ...

OK I signed up for eMusic this month. Being OS from the US it is reasonably good value to get music via this means. With the luxury of unlimited downloads gone are there are more precise recommendations eg great tracks on a otherwise not great album? I have just started exploring but there is a lot ...

A small intro. I am from Canberra Australia but have spent a lot of time in Sydney. We have a small but growing scene here where I teach and DJ. To continue on from what has been said - for myself personally you cannot beat a great live band. Last Sunday night down in Sydney I heard a great 14 piece...

George T. Simon
I stumbled across a second-hand copy of "Simon Says - The Sights and Sounds of the Swing Era 1935-1955" by George Simon. He was a contributor and later on the editor of Metronome. This book contains samples of his articles and reviews from Metronome in the swing era. It also has side comme...

Mildred Bailey
I did a search and couldn't find her already discussed. I picked up "The Incomparable Mildred Bailey" (Columbia - Legacy 2003) over the weeked. The blurb lists her as a influence on Ella. Anyone used her stuff for dancing. Any comments on the Proper set? So far like "Wham (Re Bop Boom...
