That's what I thought. In which case, as some people have already stated, you should check you facts, Mike, 'cuz you're completely wrong about some of the events you posted. Also if you really are "just merely wondering", you may - as I think someone already mentioned - be a little more ca...

Just the fact that a small percentage of people have been responsible for an unproportionally large percentage of music. There you go using those words again - "responsible for" - yet you never answered my question. So I'll try asking it again: First of all, I'm curious by what you mean &...

Re: Music Monopoly

Does it bother anyone else that 2 djs, with very similar musical preferences are responsible for music at the following (in my opinion) major events: First of all, I'm curious by what you mean "responsible for". Do you mean they pick the competition music? Or they pick all the DJs for the...

However, we will have sizeable alternative rooms for Classic swing, Slow Blues dancing and even "Westie Lindy" (an alternative term to West Coast Swing because it is not technically "WCS" but instead just Lindy patterns to non-swing 4/4 music, like Lou Rawls "Natural Man&qu...

Night Train holds a very special place in my heart. It was the first "modern jazz" cd I ever got, and to this day is still my favorite. I highly recommend it.

Night Rider, I think, is the other.

If you recall, Dave, I did that last year for my Saturday night after-hours set at the Austin Exchange: featured mostly Texas blues and Austin musicians. I only announced once or twice, so I don't think too many people knew it. Many individual DJs have done special themed sets at exchange/dances in...

One quick comment to throw in here... One of my favorite dances (consisting of multiple DJs/sets) at an exchange was the Sunday afternoon at the New Orleans Exchange where not only was it all local DJs showing off, but it was nothing but local music as well. All the songs were danceable. Large varie...

What's the Best Duke Ellington *Book*

Anyone read any of the Duke Ellington biographies? What's the best one? There's of course the autobiography, Music is My Mistress. But I've also heard good things about others, especially "The World of Duke Ellington" by Stanley Dance and "Reminiscing in Tempo: A Portrait of Duke Elli...
