I can't help with the above listed sets, but FYI the Basie 50s set is available for less than half price on Amazon.co.uk, right now The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings I ordered it and it is the real deal. They have a few other Mosaic sets for cheap, but nothing else that ...

Good find, bob! Apparently the MBRB were also featured in their own musical short film. Details at IMDB . I'd love to get a copy but it looks hard to come by. They did a vitaphone short which I have, it's great seeing them play live but there's a lot of ugly stereotyping in it which definetly hinde...

Ah! I don't think there has ever been a legit from the vaults re-issue of Ozzie's stuff for Brunswick or Bluebird. Collectables Records (a subsiduary of Sony) has a two volume best of of his 30's material... http://www.oldies.com/product-view/74772.html I have Volume 1 and I enjoyed it... Ozzie was...

Classics Label don't re-master, which is one reason I really like them. I also have no problem with their extra cost in comparison to other labels. By working through a Classics set of CD's you can pick up a much more comprehensive set of recordings, in stead of buying double the amount of CD's fro...

How's the sound quality on that Lucky Millinder Proper Pair compared to the Classics releases???
Same question goes for that Stuff Smith pair, I want to slowly filter out poorer recordings out of my collection with better restored material...

Don't be silly Julius. You might not be able to make specific rules for such things (exact drums etc), but you can assume some basic things. For example, you can't produce a legit swing or trad jazz sound by using an electric bass. It's just not going to happen. That kind of distinction can be made...

I figure they're usually both the same since many a times the label will just copy the liner notes from the LP and put them in the CD reissues...once again I wasn't trying to diminish the importance of gaining knowledge from liner notes, i've found a ton of great info in liner notes, it's just that ...

Fletcher might not have arranged for Chick but Horace his younger brother surely did... Hi, Sorry to cast any doubt on this, but are you sure? Horace Henderson's name as an arranger for Chick Webb is not on any of my Chick Webb CD liner notes, or in any of these articles .... http://en.wikipedia.or...

Well I have a wee bit on a confession to make. I copied the CDs from the radio stations archives. The CDs aren't cheap and prior to spending the money, I wanted to verify the quality. Now that I've heard the quality, I will end up buying a few of the CDs. For my needs and general feeling of support...
