I was just reading a book (Gary Giddins - Visions of Jazz), and it had some interesting stuff.
Appearently, Chick Webb offered Hodges to Duke Ellington, as Chick beleived Hodges needed to be in a band where he had more freedom.
I tought it was quite interesting.

Band rhythm section
Is the Rhythm section the most important section of a (swing) "dance" band? From looking at bands in the past, and in current times, from my initial observation, a band with a strong rhythm section seems to work well with dancers. Basie’s band was known of having the best rhythm section be...

Basie's early versions of this chart is actually called High Tide, and he has recored a few different versions. I have 3, and they all sound quite different. Two are off the The Count Basie Story [Proper] album
I've got another version on a french record label. I'll have a look for it later.

Best Version of "Jumpin' at the Woodside"
What’s you favorite version of Count Basie's
"Jumpin' at the Woodside"
Mine is off a 1944 live radio recording. It’s a faster than usual version and the Piano is very driving in it. I really like it.

There is a blank version of it on the Swing DJ's Australia, yahoo email group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/swingdjsaustralia/ Its in the files folder. Swing Wom...
