Re: Found this while searching for info on the "Spinach
Is that a quote up there? It says she recorded it in 1938. Dean Mora says it was not written until 1947. Who is "Anslinger"? It is a quote from this web-site so take it for what it's worth. Anslinger is: Harry J Anslinger – director of the US Federal Bureau of Narcotics from 1931 to 1962 ...

Found this while searching for info on the "Spinach&quo
In 1938, one year after US pot prohibition, the famous jazz band Julia Lee and her Boyfriends recorded The Spinach Song, which was regularly performed in clubs thick with cannabis smoke. The Spinach Song contains lyrics that likely fed Anslinger's suspicions. Especially the chorus "I didn't lik...

I just got Julia Lee's CD "A Proper Introduction to Julia Lee: That's What I Like" from Amazon almost all "blue".
Plus Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On" is always a crowd pleaser.

Equalizers while laptop DJing?
Hi Dan, I use the equalizer in iTunes to tweek the sound as well as a very small mixer that I bought at Radio Shack on clearance. http://i5.ebayimg.com/03/i/07/8f/1d/fd_1.JPG The reason that I use the mixer is to plug in a microphone and to provide a way for a 2nd DJ to be hooked up and ready to go....

Swing DJ’ing as a Design Art
In a similar vein, has anyone here done sound for restaurant or other commercial settings. I was having lunch the other day in a nice restaurant and they were playing "Be-Bop" on the sound system, a little too loud for my tastes too. My inclination was to ask the owners if they would like ...

Re: Modern-Swing! Any recommendations?
I think people are very in to modern-swing like BBVD, RCR, Squirrel Nut Zippers, ... and so I`ve decided to focus on it. The "modern swing" groups you list are unfortunately, virtually undanceable. While they have their own charm and energy live (I'll admit to seeing two of them, one many...

Laptop DJing iTunes?
To answer your original ? Go with iTunes and make playlists. You can volume match and manipulate the interval between tracks if you want (up to 6 secs. I think). If you know your collection (library) you don't really need to preview or que-up. It's a simple matter to accommodate requests by searchin...

External Sound Cards
This is what I use, an old Creative Soundblaster MP3. The sound has been perfect for every room that I've DJ'd in from large hall to small bar room setting even outdoors at the Calatrava.

Swing Karaoke?
Does anyone have a good source for swing karaoke? I would like to add this to our Thursdays at Hot Water in Milwaukee but I'm at a loss for where to find quality swing material.
Any help appreciated.

New Peeve
I do the bulk of my DJing at one nightclub (a weekly gig) and I have an on-going problem. Every time I DJ it's a struggle to get my signal to the club's amp. Someone screws around with the wires and settings and connections every week! It's never just a matter of showing up with my lap-top and plugg...
