Re: Bear Family sets
I just wanted to post a note that I got my first Bear Family set this week - The Nellie Lutcher & Her Rhythm 4CD Box. As noted above it has a high density of fine dance tunes - most at a relaxed tempo. It does go a bit into novelty territory, but I think I'll be able to use it quite a bit for my...

Re: History of Swing Music: Book recommendations
I agree with the "The World of Swing" recommendation and would add;
The Swing Era by Gunther Schuller. This book is fantastic and really helped with my understanding.
There is also a companion book dealing with the (pre-1933) development of jazz called Early Jazz.

Re: OT - I need a laptop. $300.00 pricer range
For your needs I'd strongly suggest getting a tablet. An iPad will run movies and videos all day, has a better screen than a laptop, is simple to maintain and use. The screen size request is perhaps not as important as you think because; You view it closer to your face than a laptop They often have ...

Re: What was your worst djing experience?
For the first time in about 10 years of laptop DJing, iTunes crashed completely last night in the middle of a song. :oops: I was pretty embarrassed, but quickly restarted it all and got it up and running. Still didn't prevent everyone from jeering. At least it wasn't a comp or an exchange or anything.

They use RealAudio for the sound. This was popular about 10 years ago but is not very common any more. You can download a plugin that will play the RealAudio format here: http://www.real.com

Here's the deal: It's a big library of songs online. You can play whatever you like. Basic access is free. There are ads. It's legal, but artists are unsure about whether it's good for them. You can pay for improved service (better sound, no ads). Competing services are Pandora , Rdio , LastFM , Goo...

Re: Robert Parker on 1926 78rpm record restoration
I dislike his ideas about adding stereo to old recordings – but that was a cool video and a sad story (if indeed the collection was disposed of rather than sold off).

Re: Chick Webb documentary - anyone seen it yet?
There must be a lot of films that get made as passion projects with limited audiences and then archived away. I'm also thinking about that Buddy Bolden movie. It was filmed a few years ago with a notable cast and music by Wynton Marsalis, but was never released (as of 2014 anyway). Edit: So the Bold...
