Hey all, I just got a plane ticket to London last night and I am a Herrang noob, in the worst way. I have nothing else planned so far other than the plane ticket there and the plane ticket back on the 26th. Help! I know I need to get to Stockholm and bus it to Herrang, but that's it. I haven't deci...

That sucks that you had such a negative bad experience. Do these folks run a regular venue in your area? If so, you should spread the word about the bounced check. That's not cool at all. They're just starting out, but yes, it's a weekly thing. I've actually mailed them, and will give them an oppor...

Re: ECS Music

It ended up being an extremely strange experience, and one I've told them I don't really want to repeat. They'd asked for East Coast Music and had been advertising as music of the "40's, 50's and 60's". I found out when I got there from the guy who'd DJed the week before that the woman run...

I prefer some contrast between sets. I always thought it was less than complimentary to a band if you play music in the same style... as if to say, "here's what you *should* sound like". I've always felt like contrasting too much though is more saying "here's what I'd rather be liste...

East Coast Music?

I was asked last night to DJ an "east coast swing" dance (specifically as opposed to lindy) in the next few weeks. I'm having a little trouble figuring out exactly what all they want though. Any specific suggestions? I know to stay away from slow bluesy stuff, but am blanking a bit on what...

Re: announcing songs

Just a little OT but, Here in Milwaukee we have a band leader that will talk for 5 mins. or more about each and every song! This is interesting for about one song then it's like, " Shut The F*ck Up! and play something! " We've got one that's worse. He does that while mumbling so you can't...

The only problem I have with JRM is the parking nearby. First time I went (only had a little time before a flight home from O'Hare) I ran out of patience looking for parking so spent $14 for an hour of parking in the garage next door. Then again, last time I went to the Hollywood Amoeba, I walked. :)

I'll occasionally play "How I got Over" by Mahalia Jackson. More for blues than lindy though.
