Most of the songs I have by the Boswell Sisters change tempo. I love their music, but have to refrain from playing it because the tempo change usually elicits a lot of WTF looks from our local Bal dancers...

I'd recommend Ken Hanson from NC. I always look forward to his sets.

I'm sure Rob Moreland already did a Yehoodi set, but I'd recommend him again. :)

The saxophone in Billie Holiday's recording of "Them There Eyes" always gets me. Definitely on repeat, it's great from start to finish.

I talked to Solomon about a month ago and he relayed this issue to me. I am a law student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and am currently taking a class on copyright, so I thought it would be a neat project to undertake to try to find this obscure copyright. I think there are a l...

Maybe Billy Taylor (pianist)? He's still alive and was in NY and played with people who did play the Savoy, but I don't know if he actually played there himself.

I was intrigued by this, so I asked my boyfriend, who is a jazz musician who is working for Carnival right now, what he thought about this discussion, here's what he had to say: "The term ‘cutting session’ isn’t entirely accurate. I’ve never heard of anyone organizing a jam session solely for t...

Charleston

I'm working on a project and I need some Charleston music, decent quality, preferably vintage and with varied tempos. Since I'm not fully into the project I was wondering if you might have recommendations for a good compilation or a few artists I could check out without having to purchase a definiti...

Thanks for all the info, with this I got my boyfriend to loop the version on the commercial and add a break with him soloing on trombone to make it a full-length song, I think the final product turned out really well. I played it at a few dances and people dug it enough to dance to it--mission accom...

So funny that you posted this, a few months ago I got the Sweet Georgia Brown bug and I looked for as many different versions as I could find. In addition to some listed already, I love to play versions by Diane Schuur and the Ink Spots.
