I second the recommendation of the Fess Williams double CD. They were playing it at this record store by my house, and I could hardly believe that the recordings were from the 20s. They sounded wonderful.

Does anyone know if this album has been released on CD? Some web site I saw seems to think that it has.

Maybe an easier first step would be to create such a database where people just rated albums. If that took off, then it could be turned into a song-by-song thing.

Yeah. I can't think of anything for sure off the top of my head (I'd look it up, but I'm in a rush), but I think he arranged "Sugar Foot Stomp," "King Porter Stomp," and "Down South Camp Meetin'."

Both Fletcher Henderson and Mary Lou Williams did some Arranging for Goodman... didn't Henderson do the Sing Sing Sing arrangement? Jimmy Mundy did Benny Goodman's "SSS" arrangement. My Fletcher Henderson disc doesn't seem to say who arranged the Fletcher Henderson version, but it might h...

Well, this one goes against my repeated/extended sounds request, but I'm curious about the sound. Fletcher Henderson's "Radio Rhythm," from the CD Tidal Wave , has an unusual sound at 1:58. Reminds me of somebody slapping the strings on a guitar, but I'm not sure exactly what it is. Anybo...

Re: Swedish songs for haraang

What other songs could you add to this one to make a complete "Around the world in 80 days" theme night? Stockholm Stomp Borneo Shanghai Shuffle Belleville (I think it's a real city) Nagasaki Songs about the US (Drop Me Off in Harlem, Dear Old Southland, etc.) Hindustan Copenhagen Song of...

If you've given up hope on Amazon, there are a couple people on half.com selling that disc. (I think it's an awesome disc, by the way.)

"Avalon" and "Chasin' the Gypsy" by James Carter, on Chasin' the Gypsy.

Incidentally, I saw James Carter play this afternoon in Oakland. Man! He was amazing. He must have pushed his saxes to every limit they had. James Carter is one crazy man.

You'd think that having ants in your pants would make you more, not less, likely to get up and move ar...never mind.

Anyway, I'm digging Biréli Lagrène's version of "Ma Première Guitare" right now, off of Gypsy Project and Friends.

Wow, that's a lake, not a river by the County Line? Ha. I've been going there for just about my entire life (whenever I was visiting Texas, that is) and never knew I wasn't on a river until now.
