There must be something in the air I was re-reading part of Jazz Dance that talked about this. Swing is something that is felt and pervasive in many forms of jazz, yet there is no simple way to describe it in analytical terms. Every atempt falls short of the goal. It's a matter of interpritation. Fo...

Read Albert Murry's Stomping the Blues. He does a far better job explaining it than I can.

AS much as I like Barbra I play Mora a lot more. His music has got more range style wise while Barbra is much more of a nitch that can easily get over played.

Oh that's easy, and I just got it last week. International Sweethearts of Rhythm. It's 16 cuts of the Sweethearts from live broadcast for the Jubilee Radio Show and the only four studio sides they ever recorded. These women were bad ass. My other favorite is a Count Basie and Joe Williams LP of noth...

Oh man the Ipod is just too good. I've had mine (5gig) for about a year now and love it. Don't worry about price I'm sure it'll drop in another 6 months when they release a 50 gig version.

Personally I'm not a fan of Natalie Cole. Now her uncle Freddy Cole is a different story. It's a shame that the shadow of his brother and Natlaie obscure him.

In general, Hi-Fi completely changed the way drummers played, as with all musicians. . Lawrence you are so off on this. Jo Jones of the origional Basie band is the man who changed the way drummers played. He toned down the bass drum sometimes ommiting it all together. He moved the playing of ride r...

Yeah we like the old stuff up here. Thought it's not the majority. I would say people here like a mix. They don't care about low-fi or hi-fi as long as it swings it's butt off. It's more to do with the music a DJ selects and a good DJ (IMHO) can pull from both eras and keep the party jumping.

I'll post more when I have time but I'll ad a thought now. 9 out of 10 times when I play something "fast" it definitely old schools swing. It's got that "chi" that seems to be missing out of most modern jazz that gets over 200 bpm. Funny comment that Kevin and I got at SONW after...
