Extracting streaming sound from your computer

In the past, I've used Goldwave. But recently (when I tried to convert the Storyville sample RAMs to MP3s), it's been really distorting the sound it's recording--I've tried playing w/ various settings, and it's always made it tinny/"warped" for the last month or so. I uninstalled it and cl...

Roy--does that mean you never do songs over 239 except for special occasions? Hmmm... I don't have enough experience to generalize "nevers" yet, but I know one thing that I think defines my taste is that if I were DJing late-night, I'd try to save my high-energy music for it. Not high spee...

Swing Tanzen Verboten. I really dug a song out dancing last night, and though I asked kind of late, the DJ was pretty sure he'd played it off that set. How good is the set overall? A mix of things easily found on cheap CDs elsewhere? Totally unique? Mostly things you can easily find elsewhere but st...

Weird. I just heard about that song for the first time yesterday, as we discussed it and its lyrics in class.

The man who wrote it was the foster father of the (executed) Rosenbergs' son, for a piece of trivia.

I've got a male-to-male connector a friend gave me...shouldn't be too hard to find at Best Buy. Comes out the headphone jack of my stereo, plugs into the microphone jack of my computer. That's how I ripped some tapes; should work for CDs, too. Double-click the volume control in the system tray (assu...

I was going through some downloaded Natch videos I hadn't seen, and there was this one with Cab Calloway as bandleader, and a bunch of men in zoot suits, and women with pinstripe skirt-suits (white on top, black on bottom) all dancing. It was an instrumental piece. Anybody know offhand what song I'm...

Re: What is this melody?

Is it a classical theme? Well...the first four notes (GBCD) make me think of this minor classical piece that I can't place, but I'm pretty sure I've played it or studied it in a particular semester I still have notes from, so I should eventually be able to name it if it's relevant... It goes: G BCD...

Damn. I'd feel ripped off that I paid close to $70 for it...except that I can't regret getting it at that price, either. :D

Dammit, the price just jumped up two bids in 5 minutes. I hope this stays down and I can get it. :-(

Wow, I like that track because from the little bit I heard, it sounds like something with violin that you might want to do a few swingouts to. That's pretty cool.

The point isn't to chop and dice and cram it into tiny pigeonholes, but to come up with/agree upon terms that describe the music we are talking about so that the discussion moves forward Exactly. Think about every significant vocabulary word you've learned...the dictionary describes it in a whole s...

Once you've got a complete set of studio recordings, are there any live albums that stand out as must-haves, either because of specific songs or because the takes are breathtakingly better?
