I use an old pair of Sony headphones. The headband piece broke (due to abuse), and now makes a great way of just grabbing one and holding it up to my ear for quick cueing.

It's situation dependent. Regular event: If you don't have the rig to support DJ's who need CD's then it's both a monetary and logistical issue. But if the DJ booth already has this or you have a rig at your disposal, then by all means, CD DJ's could be encouraged. Smaller non-regular event: These o...

I guess I wasn't clear. The beta of version 3 was released to some for testing in 2005. It has been posted on the user forum as 'we'll be releasing the next version of the beta in a couple of days' several times in the past two years. The last update to their site regarding when the beta version wi...

When I DJ'd at the radio studio, they had a huge library of Vinyl, and I did a few shows that were entirely DJ'd from Vinyl.

I also had my wife DJ an entire set of music using 78's once.

True. Actually, I had thought you were going to say that events that go all digital would just require contestants to provide an mp3 or their cds early enough to be ripped and tested. I'd hard enough getting their CDs 2 seconds before they go on. Ain't that the truth. I keep waiting for someone to ...

I have used DJ1800 for a couple of years and only had one drop. But to me, one was one too many. But I continue to use it because I haven't found anything (for the price) that is comparable. As far as a new version . . . I don't think you will ever see it. The last time there was an update on their...

gemzombie- It just sounds to me like you have a fairly grim view of "most swing DJs", perhaps from some horrible DJ childhood trauma. Not really, these discussion tend to sound that way. But for the most part, I'm optimistic... I'm just championing *better*. Nothing wrong with that is the...

Quite simply, my point is this. The abundance of simplified software choices make it very easy for people to become lazy and not set up cueing and the like. I'd say most of the people here probably do use their choice of software in a more than adequate way. What I have seen is a proliferation of &q...

IMO, the minimum set of capabilities for DJ software is: 1) Cross fade between songs. 2) Alter the pitch/tempo of the song in real time. 3) "Cue" a song to skip a long intro. 4) "Preview" a song while another is playing. 5) Search able playlist (preferably by ID3 tag fields) 1) ...

There's no swing DJ so good at DJing by CD that they can't be done without. Taken nationally or even regionally, what you said is true. Ya, and I admitted as such when I said we have local DJ's who still use DJ's that I still schedule to DJ, and still bring in my CD rig for them. Most of the discus...

I've heard of music snobs, but DJ software snobs? DJ software snobs, that is the term. GemZombie I would like to know why using iTunes is bad? Please tell me. I bet nobody can hear the difference on a crowded dancefloor. Blah, here you guys are making it all serious again. Look everyone uses...

I'm still adamant about Digital DJs using the proper software/equipment though, and unfortunately there are far too many DJs that don't. I'll alienate half of you by telling you all once again how bad iTunes sucks. Using iTunes/winamp/Media player is like riding around in a Datsun Pick-up truck hel...

We're talking about Swing DJs here. I agree with Reuben on this one. There's no swing DJ so good at DJing by CD that they can't be done without. Event organizers can save time/money/effort by just accepting Digital DJs. Having said that, I have 2 DJs in Atlanta here that I still haul my CD rig in fr...

Why do you need the CD players? Ditch 'em and use the space on the rack for things you will actually need. A lot [well at least one] of Martin's favorite blues DJs are still on CDs. We got really nice laptop bags as part of DJ'ing Denver Lindy Exchange (thanks William!). That's a big hint I think. ...
