Beat me to it, I was just about to say Andrew Sisters aren't in my normal collection, although I bet I could dig up something dusty if I had to. And Glenn Miller, as some have pointed out, has some live cuts I really can get into. Except for some really horrendous modern bands, I don't bother to 'ca...

Related to stupid people, let's see if I can recall this one correctly: Recently Jake was DJing a band break of Dr. Zoot 's, and one of his tunes was a Dizzy Gillespie selection. The band leader came up to him afterwards and said something to the effect of, "Boy, whoever the trumpeter was, his ...

It's even worse when the "Blues Room" plays more swinging music than the "Lindy Room"...

Aside from local DJs who lack the abilities, my personal preference is that I don't want to visit one city to hear the same type of sets I can at any other place I head to. I go there to get more familiar with that city's scene, which just so happens to have a ton of extra people dancing in it too. ...

. I'm an appreciator of Charles Peterson, I have a book of his photographs with articles and titles written by W. Royal Stokes. It's excellent for more than just the photographs: Swing Era New York This volume offers a compilation of photographs taken in New York City between 1935 and 1951 by Peters...

The Shim Sham is a non-partner dance, making the "So I can shim-sham with YOU" line not only campy but off-base. At the end of Tap shows, everyone who Tap danced, even those in the audience, would be invited onto the stage to take part in the "Shim Sham". Most Tap dancers did no...

I have yet to listen to the release, but they are a local favorite that plays excellent renditions of especially later era work (as you can see by their song choices, and the versions of them they chose). The musicians are top notch, such as well known Dwayne Dolphin , Nelson Harrison who played wit...
