There should have been an "age is not a major factor" option, that would have been my vote. Some young DJs are good because they have a fresh approach, others suck because they are cocky and lack wisdom. Some older DJs are good because of their experience and their wisdom, others suck beca...

I heard disc one of the Slim Proper Box in the shop the other day, and it's fabulous. Something else to look for: I heard that there's a movie "Absolute Beginners" that features Slim Gaillard performing a song called "Sellin' Out" or something. The guy told me it was an awesome ...

Even you complained, Nathan. But the room was FULL when I started: he did not chase them away at all. At least 150 dancers. Even I'm not so pompous to think that they stuck around because they knew I was coming to save them. Again, bad DJs don't ruin a scene. Bad PEOPLE do. Just to clarify, in case...

I take that sentence back. I don't know what I was thinking. People do say that, just not as much as they should.

Sergio: Lawrence is the head of the DJ Committee, along with Josh Ellinger and me. I noticed you registered a few ago and told them. I recomended that they check out your Yehoodi show. You probably should PM Lawrence, just to get more of your questions answered. We will have another meeting soon. Al...

Rawls Pays Tribute To Sinatra

Coming Soon, Rawls sings Sinatra. Something to offend both the Rawls bashers and the Sinatra haters? Will it be a hit among the Lindy crowd, over the howls of many people in this group? Stay tuned... as far as what the line is between derivation and blatant ripoff, the courts decided that "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison is a blatant ripoff of "He's So Fine" by the Chiffons. if you listen to the two, they have very similar chord structures but also melody notes and even di...

I once thought a DJ (or two) could make or break a scene. But there are too many other contributing factors. And, when it comes down to it, there are only a handful of people in each scene who truly appreciates the quality of music. Nobody pays attention to the music as much as we do when we are ou...

I was wondering the other day if this site would ever add rankings (Grand Poobah Yehoodite, Pre-Schooler, etc..). I figured they wanted to the site to get more established before doing that. Jesse M. cleared out most of that extra stuff, as it is a bit distracting and adds clutter. You can still, o...

I don't see the angle in being snobby about requests. If it is really embarrassing, you just announce it as a request. If it really does not fit, I tell them outright (like the guy who always requests that I close with a salsa song, I just tell him no). The average new dancer never got the memo that...

Cool, glad to see so many people are coming (through this site and the registration list), I am going to meet a lot of folks I have only known online.

Shana- What I thought was interesting about your exchange was that you said you only had 4 out-of-town djs, and limited the local djs to 4 or so, too. And you made sure each dj got two shifts, which I thought was a great idea. I sure appreciated it. I think Austin did the same thing--limited the nu...
