Hi lipi, The top results all looked like pages where I could BUY the whole sheets, but I'm not interested in actually playing them, but just seeing a small excerpt... and also the first result, as it comes up here, requires a plugin that is not available on my operating system... http://www.sheetmus...

Re: Educating about swing rhythms and schemes?

http://users.fulladsl.be/spb6846/binaries/in_the_mood_cond_p1.gif Thanks for that link (and the image above). I googled for hours but I always only came up with sheets of "In the mood for love" or sites where you could buy them completely. When you look closely at e.g. bars 1-3, the accen...

mr. e, are you asking your question as a DJ or as a scene organizer? Clearly from the dancing side, not DJing. However, these things as usual mix: teachers also need to choose appropriate music for their classes. Sometimes even need to dig more deeply into the music as a DJ: e.g. when developing a ...

Re: Educating about swing rhythms and schemes?

When it comes to material, I'm trying to get hold of the "in the mood" line from a sheet. Sorry, but what do you mean by this :?:. Are you trying to find the lyrics to "In The Mood"? presumably he means he's looking for some sheet music--a lead sheet or similar which has the mel...

Re: Educating about swing rhythms and schemes?

But we have lots of teachers from all over the world come here for event such as Rock that Swing in February... What about the 30s or is that too hard for younger people to connect with? So let's have a look at the instructor lineup: --- Sakarias & Frida Nick & Carla Mickey & Kelly Davi...

Re: Educating about swing rhythms and schemes?

Which country are you based in? Germany. But we have lots of teachers from all over the world come here for event such as Rock that Swing in February, or La Santa in March (ok, technically speaking La Santa is in Africa, not in Germany... still it's closely tied to my scene). We aren't that far fro...

Educating about swing rhythms and schemes?

Hi, At some point, dancers should receive some education about Swing music, the rhythms and patterns etc. for their musicality. Of course many will develop an intuitive understanding, but some benefit from having a "theoretical" class I figure. There are a couple of common excercises to do...

What tech functionalilty do you really use?

The first time you've stood before a DJ CD deck, you probably were like "whoa, what are all those buttons for". And many DJ software actually reproduces even the common layout of these controls. So what of this functionality do you actually use? I mean, there is tons where I can imagine a ...

mr. e, I also want to say that even though I may be coming off as a Nazi, I used to share your viewpoint. If you look up some of my first posts on swing DJs back when it was still a naive newbie, you can see how my view at one time was similar to yours. Here's a few embarrassing nuggets from 2002: ...

a much better indicator is: do people seem like they are enjoying themselves? you can tell whether they smile or groan when the music comes on. Or just ask one of the dancers. Ideally, you should know someone there anyway. They often know each other, talk about the music, and will often be able to ...

The dancing was born from the music And the music evolved into Bebop losing much of the dancability. So much of the Neo/Revival stuff is actually much more danceable than what you'll find on compilations called "Swing music", just because the dancers and the music lovers can disagree a lo...

Don't get things wrong

Nobody said anywhere that you shouldn't use classic swing ever for teaching. Just that you can also use neo-swing or not-quite-swing stuff for teaching such as "Vem Vet". With your argumentation, people would only be able to dance swing to classic swing then. So following your argumentatio...
