Re: Swing songs that change styles within the song?
The first strain of "St Louis Blues" is traditionally played with a latin rhythm. Most modern recordings don't retain this feature, sadly. :( Everything before 1927 or so will have the traditional rhythm. A more modern (hah!) recording that retains this feature is Bob Scobey's form 1955 (o...

Re: thomas and egle
I don't recognize this particular recording, but it's "In a Mellow Tone"/"In a Mellotone", a Duke Ellington composition. Maybe that'll help in your search. Good luck!

Re: Recordings of band appearances in vintage radio brodcast
This thread might be useful: http://www.swingdjs.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2616 There are at least three albums with Ella fronting Chick's band at the Savoy. You might also enjoy: Jimmie Lunceford's "1936-43 Live Broadcasts" on Jazz Hour. Charlie Christian's "First Master of the Ele...

I humbly suggest the two Hallowe'en threads we already have as good places to go hunting for gloomy, spooky, creepy music: http://www.swingdjs.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3182 http://www.swingdjs.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=390 Also, if this were the olden days, Reuben or Falty would pipe up right a...

Re: St. Louis Blues, Radio Broadcast? (ILHC 2011)
The music used by the dance team (Lindy Hopper's Dozen) has been skillfully edited from the original version, probably in the interest of choreography. I wonder if there is any way to get this (edited version) other than by extracting the noisy soundtrack of the video. I'm confused by this post. It...

Re: Good four-on-the-floor tracks?
First, to avoid confusion later on, let me mention that the term "four on the floor" in jazz refers to hitting the bass drum on every beat, rather than the bass. Second, once the double bass took over from the tuba, having the bass play a note on every beat became the standard. (Previously...

You're very welcome.
And do you feel as dumb as I do for not recognizing Maxine's voice? It's super obvious now that I know. :p

Re: A version of Candy
Naomi got back to me: it's one of Skye's tracks, and it's Maxine Sullivan. I found the album on allmusic eventually. It's "The Queen, Volume 3", the third in Kenneth Records' series of Sullivan-in-Scandinavia recordings. And that's where the rub lies: Kenneth Records was one of Gösta Häggl...

Re: ILHC Open Strictly Bal - Song?
There are two takes, and they're very, very similar (I assume Anton was mostly teasing). Both are on the OOP Mosaic set "Classic Chu Berry Columbia and Victor Sessions". They're dancing to take 1 (you can tell by the trumpet solo, at 1:34 in the video--take 2's introduction to that solo is...

Re: French Song in a facebook video
Next question: what kind of crazy French accent is that? "j'adore" sounds like "chat d'or"! (I feel a lot less bad about not being able to figure it out from the original video now.)
Anyway, good job tracking it down!
