For those of us that are music nerds things like: - Recording Date and location (to identify recording session) - Label, and any identifiers for recording or releases - Personnel and soloists - Composer and Arranger - Bandleader - Original release artist and album artist (useful for collections) Tha...

It would depend on whether you want to avoid songs that sound romantic but are really about pain, heartache and despair. Or songs that are romantic but heavily laden with innuendo.

There does appear to be quite a bit of variation in electro-swing that I don't think it's terribly useful lumping it all together. There's the standard remix approach (ie. swing samples + club beats) like: G-swing: http://www.myspace.com/gswingrecords DJ Disse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruX0Q0Y...

One of the Melbourne dancers and musicians wrote a song called Black Hole (he also wrote a theme song for the Melbourne Lindy Exchange 2007 I think).

Perhaps the others can do better but I'm pulling blanks on most of them. Here's what I recognise:

3. Charlie Barnet - Wild Mob of the Fish Pond - 1940
8. Big Chief De Sota - Fletcher Henderson
9. Sounds like Sugar Foot Stomp but I can't recognise the arrangement or the band.

The sixth video - the version of Zonky is also by Crytzer's Blue Rhythm Band - you can buy the CD with both tunes on it here: http://www.syncopators.net/?page_id=23

The Fats Waller tune "We the people" has a few lines about taxation. I think it's on one of the chronological classics (37-38 maybe). There's also a cover by Catherine Russell on her latest album "Inside this heart of mine" . Genre is jazz.

One thing about beat-matching with Swing music. Because of the musical structure and the general audio quality of old swing music varying the tempo by any more than 10-20% makes it sound funny. So if you are beat-matching it probably pays to start off with two tunes of similar tempo.

The song is 'the song of the count' by Count von Count of Sesame Street fame with some creative censoring. The word bleeped out is "count"!

Have just gotten into CD 6 of the Ellington set - this is the beginning of the 1936-37 period. Damn it's swinging hard - virtually every track on this disc is seriously in the pocket.

@Sam - I'll loan you the liner notes next time I see you.

As for the discussion nothing comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned but I'm sure I could come up with a few if I checked Mr Jesse's show notes.

Short answer: No.

Particularly the Nostalgia collection - they sound like they've been remastered with the specific intent purpose of making them sound worse.

The jazz legends ones that I've heard are little better - though there may be some out there with better remastering.
