Thanks for all the hard work you do putting together your review site. I know I've found it quite helpful over the years, and I do check back time to time for updates (which you actually do unlike some sites that have grown stale). Speaking of links, Ron's site is already listed in the SwingDJs Link...

Thanks for posting this. I always regretted never getting to see The Wolverines live while I was living in Minneapolis. Terry from the Land O' Loons Lindy Hoppers always swore they were the best local band to dance to. I downloaded all of the tracks, and they sound great. So do you have any informat...

What both Rayned and Lawrence said. Basie is hands-down my favorite. He has so much amazing swinging stuff! I know you're looking for songs, but as you can see above in Rayned and Lawrence's lists, there are so many songs that are recommended, and for each there are many great versions Basie recorde...

I love Cab Calloway and play his music almost every time I DJ. Tonight I DJed Lindy Groove, and I played "Are You All Reet?". Some dancers always seem to get confused with the long break near the beginning, but it's a killer song none-the-less. "Are You Hep To The Jive?" is one o...

There's a few tracks in there that I *love* that I haven't anybody else play before (Metronone Allstars, the Hawkins/Hylton track & the live Now You Has Jazz...was it the live one?).. Yup, the version of "Now Has Jazz" that I played is live. I love it too. So swinging! Hands down my f...

Same collection - cleanest version I've heard. You're right, it probably is closer to 310. It's tough to get the counting correct sometimes at those higher tempos. I went back and counted it again and got 310 or so myself.

Honestly I think there was a great oprotunity lost here. There was a chance to really put the spotlight on our musical forfathers. Honestly I thought this opportunity was in fact taken by many DJs. The diverse selection of DJs for the HJDF was perfect, ensuring that the past and present of Lindy Ho...

Yes, the Hines/Rushing album is great. Another album that I dig is a collection of his 40s/50s recordings, "Hines Shines".

P.S. and thanks to Reuben , we got to hear Jimmie Lunceford, yet another way over looked orchestra who's arranger Sy Oliver was an over welming influence to the swing era.... Actually Jimmie Lunceford gets a lot of play these days. I know I spin his music all the time. Plenty of us played Lunceford...

They are a smoking big band, one of my favorites around today. I loved their performance on Friday night at HJDF. If you ever get a chance, catch them at Luci's up in Harlem on a Monday night. Amazing! I am SO waiting for a "HRO Live At Luci's" CD to be released some day.

Here's the rundown on the HJDF DJ Battle on Saturday: Before things started, the order of DJs was chosen at random. The first four would be in Round 1, and the second four would be in Round 2. Each DJ would get to play roughly 15 minutes of music. At the end of each round a winner would be selected ...

"Shiny Stockings" being played 15 times seems a little exaggerated... but if you were to add up the versions of "Shiny Stockings" and "Satin Doll" that were played, I'm sure it would have been at least 15. I actually didn't hear either of those songs played too many ti...
