Thanks you so much guys for that help.
I've bought that Basie/Webb CD.
It just so happens I'm having a Savoy House Band night down here in Melbourne on the 12th of March (Savoys 78th Brithday) and I didn't have some of those Chick Webb charts.

Thanks Againn

Count Basie, Live at the Savoy Ballroom

I've come across an LP on the internet called "Count Basie, 1937, Live at the Savoy Ballroom" Other than the name of the Album, I can't find any other info about it. Does anyone have it, and if so, what’s it like. From my experience Ballroom recordings were never great quality back then. D...

I've been working hard on getting Savoy house bands. Amazon is nearly a five month waiting on some of them. I'm getting a lot of Fletcher Henderson and will be looking for some Mills Blue Rhythm band over the next few months. There is some kind of rawness that these bands have that makes them swing ...

For me at the moment I just can't get enough of Black Harlem/New York Big Band recordings during the 30's.

Building up your swing collection

I've been building up my Swing collection now for the past 3 years and am very close to the 300 mark. In general, my selection of buying music has been very general with a bit of every style. However in the past few months it’s been a very specific aspect of swing, and even though I have an interest...

I did some out door DJing at the weekend, and I found the concrete surface and the weather conditions to be the biggest influance. Concrete is nasty on the feet and legs of dancers at all speeds but in partiular the upper and lower ranges. Sun, heat, cold and wind can all have different affects. At ...

Contrasting/complementing the previous DJ

When you DJing at an event and your set is following another DJs do you prefer to: Completely contrast the pervious DJ? Complement the previous DJ? Complement the pervious DJ at first and then change it to suit your team/mood for the event? Play the style that you like to play? I know the dancers th...

Have a listen to some of Fletcher Henderson's recordings between 1926 and 1930. You will find some very Lindy'able tracks in their. Also check out any Kirk between 1928-30. Tracks like Corky Stomp, recorded 1928, I thing (off the top of my head). You can't do anything but Lindy to it. Love DJing it....

Last weekend's first dance: "I love being here with you" Ernestine Anderson...the sweetness and joy in her voice make this song a classic first dance song. I used this one in my Wedding jam back in April. Its a nice song. Got a bit board of it half way through. There's not as much to play...

Jazz reference Books.

Some of the CD’s I’ve bought over the past few years have very little information on them in regard to recording dates and artists involved. I’m wanting to look for some of this information and I’m finding that websites like www.allmusic.com are not giving me all I’m looking for. Does any one know o...

Reviewing your BPM graph after a set.

I’m wondering if after you have DJed a set, you graphed out your songs verses their BPM level. Would it on average look very simular after every set? You may start to ask your self some questions? Do I choose songs on how well it complements the previous song, or on how it ups or downs the BPM of th...
