Haha. Sid Catlett was the shit, and quite the showman. He upstaged Banny Goodman, when he played with his band, and soon found himself looking for a new regular gig. Funny anecdote from a little drum battle between Buddy Rich and Sid Catlett: Buddy Rich is all over the place, tearing it up hardcore....

I hear them more often that I'd like here (1/3 to 1/2 a night's music), so I try not to play them very often...it does depend on the night, though. Popular around here with other djs: Weapon of Choice - Fatboy Slim Techno-ish remix of Dinah Washington's Is you is, or is you ain't my baby Plenty - Gu...

I'll look around. I had a website where you can order them, but I have to find it. I think they're called tempo watches, if not that...something similar. They are pretty pricey, though. Then tend to run in the triple digits- which is alot if you just wanna figure out the bpms on a few songs. It's no...

I see, your method and mine are different. you're counting the number of beats in a certain time period, and I'm talking about counting only 6 beats. so if you click on the first one and click again on the 7th one, you've got 6 beats. that's the way that tempo watches (not stop watches) work. click....

no you don't, you start it at the same time as the beat. you just have to be precise (basicly, don't hang behind the beat like we dancers tend to do), it's not that hard. otherwise you're getting extra time in there and your results won't be accurate. with the tempo watch it tells you the bpm based ...

Putting on sing, sing, sing and ducking out to the bathroom can also look like you're trying to escape the wrath of the dancers that vehemently dislike that song. If I were that guy I'd probably take my time too. If I need to run to the bathroom I'll try to put on a long song and have something else...

Ok, so...to go with what kitkat said the first four notes of the phrase do sound familiar, both major and minor. It's the smae motif from the Overature to Ruslan and Ludmilla by Glinka, but without the really fast scales that follow. I know it sounds like something else though, the entire melody. Ma...

I usually don't go for compilation sets, but... I happened upon this Big Band box set today. I know it's $90, but it's also 40 cds. 40! It has a substantial amount of music by each of 18(?) artists, at least 2 cds per person. For the amount of music that's included and the fact that it's an import, ...
