Re: Mad Dog version of Well Git It; Answered!
And received. Apparently they shipped by rocket. Possibly by teleport. The single-disc Jasmine release Anton recommended indeed has the fast studio version. Yay! :D Bruyninckx thinks it was recorded in Hollywood, circa April 1944. It gives personnel as follows: Candle, Mangano, LaPerche, Pierce (tp)...

Re: Mad Dog version of Well Git It; Answered!
Ugh. This thread is a huge lie.
The four disc Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Glenn Miller set (on Jasmine records) that Falty linked a million years ago does *not* have the fast version of "Well Git It". It has the 190 bpm version you can find everywhere.

Re: Who's this song ?
What makes you think it's badly tagged? I think it's correctly tagged (though the band name, "The Magic Shook Heads", sounds like something from a fevered absinthe episode): https://soundcloud.com/yourliveconcert/magic-shook-heads-beale-street Someone re-encoded, though. The version on sou...

Re: The Hot Sugar Band
Amazon.fr has it: https://www.amazon.fr/Are-You-Shape-Sugar-Band/dp/B00R8ZNVYM/ You may need a payment method with a European address associated with it to order--I have not tried. If that doesn't work, drop the band a line (their website has a contact form) and ask them about US distribution. It mi...

Re: Who is this vocalist?
My first reaction was "he's listened to a lot of Sammy Davis Jr and Nat King Cole!". (Listen to that "hear" two seconds in--doesn't that sound *just* like Nat Cole?) Anyway, it's Harold Nicholas (yes, of the Nicholas Brothers). Harold Nicholas et son orchestre, 1959. You can find...

Re: Goodman Tempo Shift -> St Louis Blues into One O'Clock J
Glad that's indeed the one. :) That German site you linked is a bit shady (read: totes illegal in the US, and ethically a bit suspect in Europe). The Mosaic box set is OOP, but you can get used copies on Amazon in the US: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Capitol-Recordings-Goodman-1944-1955/dp/B002SK...

Re: Goodman Tempo Shift -> St Louis Blues into One O'Clock J
Doesn't seem like the thing I'd play for balboa, but I imagine it was Benny Goodman in 1947 on Capitol. It's only 100 bpm or so most of the way through, and does have the funny ending you describe with a One O'Clock Jump-ish bit. 1947-02-12 Benny Goodman (cl), Ernie Felice (acc), Jess Stacy (p), Har...

Re: How long should individual swing or DJ sets be?
I'm selfish (?) and prefer to DJ the whole three or four hours!
When I have split in the past, I've always preferred longer sets.

Re:
Two great versions: The version from the short film "Jammin' the Blues" with Lester Young et al. I don't know the name of the singer but it is the most laid back swinging version I have heard. I'm digging through the archive for no-doubt nefarious purposes, and this caught my eye: the sin...

Re: Gospel Lindy?
Last Wednesday we finally did the gospel/spiritual set at the local venue that's in a church. I played gospel-y things for the first hour and a bit, and then just the usual boring stuff. Got some compliments, and people danced fairly enthusiastically. I think we'll do this again in the near future. ...

Re: mosaic sets
Cool, thanks! I'm really looking forward to hearing these.
(The alt to "Shoe Shine Boy" was already known. The other three are new--that is, they were discovered in a basement a year or two ago.)

Re: mosaic sets
Thanks for the update!
How are the alternates to the Jones-Smith tracks? I've heard the "Lady Be Good" alternate, and it's great, but I haven't hear the other two yet. (And I haven't ordered my set yet. It's on the wishlist!)
