you kind of have to since you keep pulling those 4 am sets eh? I actually have a lot of trouble as a dancer when the music gets slow at that hour. If I'm standing up, it drains me--I have to have a driving song (i.e. at least 150-160 bpm, probably more) to keep me distracted enough that I don't not...

Squeeee I stuck the first CD into my stereo...started to listen to some tracks...skipped through... Stuck the second CD in. Tried to listen to other stuff. Skipped through. Listened to the whole darned thing of my favorite recording of "One O'Clock Jump," now legitimately mine. :D But yes,...

I played violin for about eight years, and I was in a youth symphony for about five of those. I pick of my violin once in a while, and I love the feeling of being able to play the "foreign" instument. There is a certain rush that muscle memory gives me. When you stop practicing all the ti...

Violin. A long time ago, when I practiced and didn't suck, I played classical. Now I do Irish fiddle when I need a quick buck.

Yeah, CDUniverse's audio server was a little less busy this morning than last night, so I finally got to listen to clips. Just made my purchase--$11.99 with shipping & handling. I told myself no CDs for more than $5 per disc, since I don't have a job and won't until winter break at least...but I...

Since "The Whole World" by Outkast is something I've heard a lot played for swing dancers, maybe you could comb their albums for something faster.

Posted because Matthew told me to... :-Þ In my 19th-century music class last year, I remember how minor keys were always searching to be "resolved"--and if they didn't, it made an impact. There was no such thing as a minor key for the hell of it. If a piece was in a minor key and transitio...

So how do you guys like it? Would it be a one-song buy, especially if I already had decent versions of many of those songs, or are there a lot of great recordings on it?

One O'Clock Jump

Okay, been wondering for a while where this comes from. I downloaded it back in the day, and I've never heard the version again elsewhere. It was attributed in the ID3 tag to Goodman with no other information, but who knows with downloaded music. Can anyone tell me what album this comes off of? Or a...

I'd like to see how many people on this board even keep up with pop music anymore. Since I got to college, the number of names I recognize on the Top 40 chart has plumetted. I imagine the phenomenon must be worse among jazz afficionados. :)

Yeah, all the dances I mentioned, I know how their rhythm works...the problem is just where to start looking. I can go through a million Latin pieces, and all I hear is salsa music. It's really hard to find something with a cha-cha beat or a samba beat...and I sure as heck can't tell what distinguis...

Actually, not interested in west coast. I can dig some stuff up pretty quickly for that--it's the more specialized music I have trouble with.

Resources for other partner dance music?

I can't find any good websites when I Google search...I want to get a decent collection of music for other partner dances. Especially music that's distinctly foxtrot (as opposed to something you could foxtrot to) that's not Sinatra/Martin/Darrin--that's a really tough one to find decent recommendati...
