Re: Winamp users: winamp is no more

I still use it for gigs. I use MediaMonkey as my "what I own" database. It can be finicky about special soundcards anyway, so I just have the general computer (including it) go to my phones. Winamp does just what I need - lets me drag "files" into it (from MediaMonkey, which lets...

Re: mosaic sets

Hey, that blog has a great picture of George Avakian, swing dancer & DJ Greg Avakian's dad! Can anyone get ahold of Greg and make sure he sees http://dippermouth.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/record-makingwith-mosaic-records-latest.html ? I'm not sure how to reach him anymore now that PHPBB boards are...

[Answered] My Daddy Rocks Me (Six Appeal), Benny Goodman

"Lindy hop triplestep Warm up with Ali&Katja" - I've heard this in a million classes but still don't know the tune. Thanks!

When you say it sounded like the Mills Brothers - do you mean there were multiple voices singing at the same time? Guitars as the most prominent instrumental sound? To me, this song generally sounds kind of like the Mills Brothers / Slim & Slam / Cats & The Fiddle - I mean, at least compared...

But the important question I have for others is: have the pops had a negative impact on DJing from these CDs? Or are they more something you just hear when listening critically in your living room? I haven't noticed a negative impact when DJing these. Cool, thanks. My favorite parts of this set wer...

I feel like the Lunceford set is a bit on the bright side for my taste. It's so easy to hear the music, but it's also easy to hear a lot of grating pops. But the important question I have for others is: have the pops had a negative impact on DJing from these CDs? Or are they more something you just ...

I missed this one the first time around. Aside: Julius, that's an awesome gift. It is amazing now that we have so many small combos around the country that are dedicated to right-in-the-middle swing for lindy hoppers. (Not too groovy, not too trad-ey.) Live music has really changed for us si...

I missed the boat on this one - looks like there's just a bot in there now.

Besides Yehoodi Radio, is there anywhere else that lindy DJs are playing selections of their collections over the internet?

Sounds very professional, too, so I'd look at older, bigger-name bands (possibly even ones that're well known to jazz fans but not to lindy hoppers).

Or ask Sharon. :-)

From a quick glance, it looks like Foobar2000 is specialized at being a player? (Like Winamp...) I really would say that MediaMonkey does a great job being a catalog. It's a relational database user interface that happens to have a play button on it. That trait is also why I don't use MediaMonkey fo...
