Jam Circles

I'm totally against choreographing jam circles, but what have you all found gets people out onto the floor?

Right now, I'm liking "Doggin' Around," "Hand Clappin'" and "Traffic Jam."

Yeah, basic stuff is okeh, but I usually run out of selections after 2-3 picks.

How do you build your collection?

I've been amassing CDs for some time now and have a pretty good core group of post-war swing (cough cough) material. But I've still got a huge chunk of classic swing- and jazz-era pieces. I know it's part of the game, but I always seem to be behind. Do you all have some sort of agenda when you go sh...

Lester Young/Nat King Cole

My first gem from my first Disconforme order, this album plains rules. Lester Young/Nat King Cole The Complete Recordings Definitive Records Track 14 is a very swinging Lester Leaps In , mid-uptempo but not blistering fast like a lot of his other recordings. Buddy Rich picks up the drums on this one...

Still looking. I think it's pretty damn hard, seeing as how I'm all over the map.

disconforme

My first order just arrived.

Disconforme absolutely gets my highest recommendations - great sound quality and fast, fast shipping & cheep cheep cheep. My only gripe is the inability to get track listings and sound files from the site.

Thanks for recommending it.

Also, for at least two nights (F/S), Austin had a Classic room. Here's the email I got from the man himself, Lawrence Page, with his recommendation on the feel of the room... Classic Swing: Not just lo-fi, and not just fast music, but instead any music that 1) was recorded before 1950 OR 2) remains ...

Eep. Just saw this. Sorry we didn't have your personal CD collection to keep you entertained. Maybe instead of presenting their own scenes, exchange organizers should just ask for attendees to submit burns of their fave pieces. Kalman Glad to see people are open to criticism in addition to praise. ...

Am I the only one that didn't like the bands? I mean they were *okay* for listening, but nothing that they played made me want to get out on the floor and dance. In fact, I avoided the main room at the Fed because of the bands. From what I have heard, even from people with an incentive to criticize...
