I picked up some used Paradigms off Kijiji and really like their sound. I got a pair of similar B&W speakers a few months later and didn't like them at all. Both run through an old Sansui amp. Looks like you're about a year to late to grab this gem: http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/87753-mcin...

*bump* So, I'm in the market for something for the living room of my new house. Does anyone have any recommendations for speakers or amps (ie brands/models)? Speakers makers have their fanboys, and are always going to come down to personal preference. Personally I've always had a soft spot for JBLs...

Just think of the iPod as the record player, and the music files as the records.

I was just thinking of the resale ability of records and CDs and I wonder if this new media had that benefit. Wouldn't it be a good deal to buy another collector's iPod instead of paying and gathering all the music yourself which would take years? The data has value (more specifically the license t...

I didn't work on that aspect of it. I was just a member of the team that put the event on, and the one with the website to promote the CD via. I'd be curious how that was handled as well.

I have no thoughts on the matter since I will never need to address the issue, but it's something that I've always been curious about. I'd love to hear what Stout, Douglas and others had to go through to get the U.S. perspective.

Hi Sam, could you please start a new thread discussing copyright issues and keep this thread on topic. The topic being what kind of recording technique do we as DJs and dancers prefer for a CD with Bennie Goodman (second half of the thirties) songs. Thanks. Now that it has it's own thread, I'd love...

While I appreciate the desire to "keep things real" by using the old recording techniques, quite frankly I would much rather have a band record using modern methods. That said though, it really doesn't matter much when it comes time to DJ... since no one records a band in such a way so as to ensure ...

I don't consider that a side benefit. Bad taste in music is a huge turn off. :D

Goodness forbid we play non-era-specific/"acceptable"-shortlist-of-modern-artists' music for our dances. Personally, the list of eras, styles, recording years and artists I play from is huge. So this makes Buble inappropriate for a swing dance? What is "this?" I just think Buble sucks, that's all. ...

As a dj, I play music for people to dance to. There are some songs/artists that I don't care for, but they're good for dancing/requests/whatever, so I play them anyways. Is there something wrong with this? Of course not... but that's what wedding DJs are for. As a Swing DJ, I play music for people ...

except the bass drum, which goes RUMBLE-RUMBLE-RUMBLE-RUMBLE throughout. I think the recording technique used inherently adds a little boom-e-ness to the bass end, but are you sure you just didn't have your sub turned up to high? I re-listened to a few tracks completely flat on studio monitors and ...

I haven't done it in years... when I did, I just ran a cable from my headphone jack to my mic input and used a simple recording program to create wav files... then cut them up and compressed to mp3s. Pretty ghetto style, but it worked. There are programs out there will allow you to rip audio directl...
