Sweeeeeeeeet! I bought an iPod when they fisrt came out and it has been the best damn purchase I have made in years. (Read: I can't live without it.) Don't use it much for DJing currently but I'm planning on doing some experiments in the coming weeks. It'll be interestinf trying the new compression ...

...Melissa doing it is having tons of DJs, each with a 1-hour set. I don't think that merits free entrance to the whole event. Then she'd have to let 20-25 people in for free. Obviously she should then account for the DJs in the budget as a cost. That way it doesn't look like a loss or shelling out...

Currently I have them all organized alphabetically. However I am in the process of reorganizing my main case into classic swign era artists, post swingera and compilations. For my smaller travel book I'm going to keep them in alpahabetical order since it's a much smaller book and easier to control. ...

That's very general. I like the idea of DJing little "sets' of 3-4 tunes and seguing to another set.
I've been doing this for the past few months and find it helps keep me out of a rut. It also alows me to do more abrupt seagues, which I find fun.

I would say if you specifically invite a DJ and then use their name for promotion then the DJ should be compensated. Weather that's flying them out or cash or bunches of bananna's is up to the parties involved. DJ's should be allowed into the venue they are spinning, regardless of name recognition. ...

Hep Records

Hep Records is one of my favorite labels for getting pre 1945 swing music. The sound quality is excelent and their choice of artist to feature is just as good. UNfortunately I just found out from a local store that they no longer have a US distributor. It appears that their distributor went under in...

My new favorite request

Context: Last night, 3.20, I was playing a "battle of the bands". It was the music of Duke Ellington vs the music of Count Basie. (I'll post the set list later) At the time Duke Ellington's Main Stem was playing. The two previous songs were Midriff, Duke, followed by The Jitters, Basie. &q...

Well, I grabbed this from all music. Also known as bebop, Bop was a radical new music that developed gradually in the early '40s and exploded in 1945. The main difference between bop and swing is that the soloists engaged in chordal (rather than melodic) improvisation, often discarding the melody al...
