Songs from Chicago, That Thing You Do and other soundtracks

I just love the song "Roxie" from the movie soundtrack Chicago , and it seems like a lot of other dancers love it, too. Its 133 BPM with lots of fun breaks, but it has enough of a steady rhythm to make it suitable for dancing (unlike a lot of other songs from musicals). While dancing I think its fun...

Nina Simone

Instead of just saying "oh, so and so died", why not talk about their best music? Nina Simone had a lot of great music and a great voice. I've found a lot of the late Nina Simone's songs slow and sleepy and unsuitable for dancers. But the ones that are suitable, are kick-ass. My favorite Nina Simone...

I DJ exclusively from compilations now, and I make a new one every month or so. The CDs I make I label "New and Featured for Apr03" for example, with the new songs I've gotten recently, and some other songs I want to feature that month. I have an index I created last year that I need to update soon,...

Thats bizarre! So do you file Basie under "Count" or "Bill" or "William"?

Obviously your point wasn't clear, or I wouldn't be asking. If you don't feel like replying with clarity, that's fine.

I agree.

You aren't going to get much sympathy from many of us about your loss of stolen property.

I use a util I downloaded from somewhere, winBPM. Tap along for a while and it gives you a filtered average. I recommend it.

Kevin, do you mean get paid, or just get the exchange fee/fees waived?

I think Melissa isn't planning on letting DJs get in free for the upcoming San Diego exchange because she figures she won't have a hard time getting enough people to come and DJ anyway, and she's not advertising any particular djs, and this is how she's done past events and they've worked fine. I wi...

I was remembering our conversation on getting paid in Austin, Greg, when I started this thread. I remember you talking about an exchange that you wouldn't go to because they didn't offer to pay... But I understand what you mean when you say if you really wanted to go, you'd go anyway. Do you find a ...

DJing at swing exchanges

I figured I'd start a new thread on this. What do you think about djing at swing exchanges? Do you like it when the exchange organizer takes all comers, and each dj gets a single 1hr slot, or do you like a more exclusive exchange, with only 3 or 4 well-known djs, and maybe 3-4 local djs? (Denver did...

I personally get paid something like $13/hr on average. Whether that works out to be a net profit in my life is unknown, because I spend a ton of money on CDs. I'm not keen on djing for free.

How much do you get paid?

This topic seems to come up periodically, and as I recall, the answers are quite diverse. Feel free to comment on your answer. If you usually get transportation costs paid often, just estimate what the equivalent average per hour rate would be. I know some people often dj weddings, but I think they ...

Its interesting, from the discussions on here before, I thought more people djed directly from a computer, but the results of this poll to date only show 1 person.
