I've had good results from most silence cutting rippers. I always listen to a CD before playing to get the timing I want for the intro and sometimes hearing the original track's "pauses" helps me decide. But, when I mix CDs for friends I do cut out the silence at the ends of some tracks an...

Louis Prima - Capitol Collectors Series is a must have for any swing DJ. (Though I confess this is my only Louis Prima album). He sets the early standard for jump swing - though much of the album is more 'play' than 'jump'. Anyone have a better genre label for this collection? The songs are short (e...

Prices?

I need a second output for my laptop.

An ECHO Indigo DJ is $169 at http://www.prosoundcards.com
But, I may initially try a cheaper usb alternative from Creative labs and just use the laptop internal sound as my monitor.

Any better prices or suggestions out there?

Anecdote:

After 9/11 things got pretty scary in NY - insurance wise!

For Roseland, the policy was $5 million. Clear Channel did not want any risk to their enterprise. I think the deductible was something like $100,000 though.

Thanks for the link Drew!

New Online Music Store - MusicRebellion.com

Songs on sale as low as 5 cents. But, most songs (jazz) that I get are 30 cents. Dynamic pricing scheme .. very cool. WMA format. MP3 for most independants. And a good range of music choices. Sadly bitrate is just 128. :( Each legal song is burnable 10+ times with unlimited exports. Any thoughts? H...

Serendipity Swing

This is not actually a music request... but IMO this request story is the king. Last night in the Springs, Jesse was DJing. Crazy snowstorm, turned my 60 minute drive into 3.5 hrs of annoyance eased only by the stack of mix CDs. I was looking for a nice magical night. And so was Ronnie (LilLindyHopp...

You know sometimes the requests are funny and good too. I have stories in NY (and was hoping to hear some more) since we cater to a large club, newbie and tourist crowd. The good thing is that the DJ booths here are much more secluded and private - so that seriously cuts down the contact with an une...

Yamaha F1 CDRW drive - nice features... a loose review

I just got this CD burner today and will comment on it. I got it for $108 with a $20 rebate -- (so $88 total - which is about $45 more than a good 52x CD burner). You can get a white one for about $20 cheaper. Its only 44x speed but it does 24x RW (with Mt. Rainier support) which is the top right no...

New Natalie Cole CD "Aska Woman Who Knows"

I heard some samples and just ordered it. Diana Krall sings a duet on the title track. Any thoughts? Verve's website for Ask a Woman Who Knows. If I really like it I'll get the SACD. Natalie Cole Vocal, Producer Joe Sample Acoustic Piano Rob Mounsey Keyboards, Arranger Russell Malone Guitar Christia...
