My opinion as an attendee was that the people I saw seemed to be having a good time, it was not a situation where the DJing was horrible and that everybody was preoccupied with a DJ quality problem. Maybe there were people who had such issues, but I never talked to them. The event was so incredible...

I didn't expect variety; I expected a lot of Basie. Kalman I expected a celebration of 100 years of Basie. It was more a celebration of the last 40 years. I feel that tempos from DJs should more or less form a bell curve with the middle majority being medium tempos with few slow on one end of the s...

Yeah, why pay to go to the most important Lindy Hop event of the year, when you can get paid to go to a westie event?

Isn't what all of us do illegal anyways? We are not liscensing this music we play for the specific use and are charging people to come to dance to it.

im pretty sure no matter what we would be fucked.

Kalman
are you sure its not too naive to think having people dance faster will help them be able to dance faster?

and the naive "teachers baby them" comments that kicked the thread off Lawerence, this is from experience. In minnesota where i helped to grow the lindy hop scene, in my lindy hop classes I would always play a wide range of tempos trying to get the beginners to be able to layback and danc...

Re: Upping the tempo.

Who do we start to convince the dancers that fast music is a lot of fun and is not as difficult to dance to as they appear to think? Brian i dont think the question is who or how, i think its when. if their teachers baby them, and only play slower tempo music then they are going to develop in a way...

The best feeling EVER as a dj is to be DJing a band break and on your last song, the band just picks up and starts playing the song. Perfect transition, its such a kick ass feeling.

What I actually meant is that whatthey asked us to DJ was not blues I usually play. The organizers are definitely in search of a very vintage feeling for the night which I was not expecting from my experiences at STLBX and Cheap Thrills and many other Blues realted events. I am not saying it was no...

I love DJ'ing Blues, but, well, it wasn't exactly blues what they were asking for. no, they were only looking for blues, just not delta blues, or guitar blues, or what most blues dancers dance to (which that isnt even normally blues). They were looking for classic jazz blues, trying to build an atm...
