Don Nelson

Not the basketball coach, but the saxophone player/vocalist. There are some interesting tracks on the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack but I can't find much of anything on the Internets about him bio wise. From what I've gathered, he played with Johnny Varro here and there. Anyone ha...

Last contest I DJed (Cowtown) I setup my contest music on my laptop then managed the music from the floor via my iPhone. It was fun. I do something similar at our local venue with Remote and Simplify Media. Use Remote to access iTunes when I'm away from the booth and Simplify if there's a song I do...

I must admit that I find it a little weird to get paid (which I do up here in the Bay Area), but that may be because I came from a place where the DJs didn't (free venue). Initially, when I was approached to be paid to DJ at a local venue I turned it down, but was told that "all DJ's that work ...

Wow. Thanks for the great info/story, Eyeball. Didn't know he used to play so close to home (I'm in SF). Shame I just missed him :( Figures Andreas found that album. I actually just started looking through Bob Willis' earlier stuff, based on a suggestion from Manu; that Proper set looks interesting....

Jimmie Rivers

I have given much thought to western swing, so when I ran across an album by Jimmie Rivers, Brisbane Bop , I was pleasantly surprised . I could swear it was as if Charlie Christian had left Benny Goodman's Quartet to play somewhere in Texas. I've looked around for other albums of the same vein (I ca...

Argh, I didn't know they would have different songs this time (got their CD at ULHS). Wish I had bought it.

Anyway, if you want the liner notes, I've found emailing them works well. It took them about a week to get back to me:

I'm in love with Charlie Christian's "Six Appeal" so much I want to take it behind a middle school and get it pregnant.

Pocket DJing?

Not that I want to get anything like this, but I thought it was interesting:

[Answered] Algiers Stomp, Mills Blue Rhythm Band

It's been bugging me, anyone know the song? I'm sure the DJ who picked this song is on this forum somewhere.

I've considered DJ1800 but I've heard it crashes a bit (any thoughts from people who use it?). I'm not terribly comfortable with the set up of the DJ1800/itunes on-screen combination - my screen feels too small for all that action. Plus I've been having some issues with the spinning beachball of do...

late 2006, mid-tempo thanks for posting these Kat - the 2006 video cracks me up because the tag is "Kevin and Carla swing dance" and I see neither Kevin nor Carla, and a bunch of Korean characters in the back - any idea where this was filmed? Looks like Korea Lindy Hop Revolution, circa 2...

There's a great Cozy Cole one out there as well...

.. which is the same as the Ben Webster one... nevermind.

The Stuff Smith version is decent as well, but the Bechet version is still the best IMO.

So I bought the Vintage CD yesterday. While there are some great tracks on it, with some quite danceable, the sound quality is quite low. Lots of white noise, and many of it inconsistent; it comes and goes making it very hard to EQ out. The later tracks are better (the ones with the male orchestra),...
