Re: Mad Dog version of Well Git It; Answered!

Ugh. This thread is a huge lie. The four disc Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Glenn Miller set (on Jasmine records) that Falty linked a million years ago does *not* have the fast version of "Well Git It". It has the 190 bpm version you can find everywhere. Hehe, you should have ...

Re: Recordings of band appearances in vintage radio brodcast

Also check out anything recorded at Liederkranz Hall in New York (sometimes referred to as "the world's best recording studio"). The Lang-Worth transcriptions were recorded there. You'll find excellent-sounding recordings by Charlie Barnet, Count Basie, Will Bradley, Larry Clinton, Tommy D...

Re: Lindy Exchange Classics Redux

1. What....you don't own the album The Legendary Buster Smith ??!?!? That is the only one on your "don't own" list that I insist you immediately go out and purchase. Every single song on the album has such a fat soulful swinging groove, played by some fabulous musicians. One of my favorit...

Re: Jimmie Lunceford

I really dig those Lang-Worth transcription sessions from 1940 that were issued on Circle Records. Here is a really nice newspaper article from 1982(!) when those songs were first released on a Circle LP: http://www.nytimes.com/1982/02/28/arts/big-bands-swing-again-on-new-disks.html My favourites ar...

Re: Dicky Wells recommendations?

He didn't record that much as a leader in the 30s and 40s. He went to Paris in the summer of 1937 with members from Teddy Hill's Orchestra and recorded one session as leader with Django on guitar (fave track: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea) and another session with guitarist Roger Chaput (f...

Re: Lyrics ID - Alreet

The Proper is just copy of the Classics, with added noise reduction. You can hear a slight drop-out at 0:27 that gives it away. Masters of Jazz is often quite good, but this disc (Anita O'Day Volume 1 - 1941) is bit of a disappointment. 'Alreet' is noisier than on the Classics issue. The Langworth v...

Re: Lyrics ID - Alreet

I listened to the Lang-Worth transcription version of the same song, but she sings it in exactly the same way, so no help there. It's a shame that there isn't a good remaster available of this song! (Or is there? I have listened to the Classics, Proper and Master of Jazz issues. Not the Time-Life CD...
