Re: Songs from ULHS 2006

The band is playing "White Heat". The first version of the song was recorded by Jimmie Lunceford and his Orchestra, in 1934 I think.

Kickstarter: California Feetwarmers' 1st Studio Album

The California Feetwarmers are raising funds on Kickstarter for the production of their first studio album. They already reached their funding goal, but can definitely use a few extra dollars. :) There are only 4 days left for this campaign. They are offering digital and physical copies of their alb...

Shake, Rattle and Roll maybe? If so, what elements do you remember of the song?

There are two different tunes under that title: a Big Band Swing version recorded by Charlie Barnet & his Orchestra in 1942; a R&B/R&R tune recorded respectively by Big Joe Turner and Bill Haley in 1954.

thanks fam!
The great Carl Sonny Leyland, master of Boogie, Blues and Jazz piano! :) The name of the band associated to the recording should be Hal's Angels.

Re: R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders

I'm amazed that we don't have a thread for these cats yet. I googled and found exactly zero discussion of them on swingdjs.com to date. The Cheap Suit Serenaders are great. I think they still perform, but only once a year in/near Berkeley. One of them, Tom Marion, lives in Los Angeles and plays wit...

What do you know about your gig and the target audience? Are you going to play during band breaks, or for an entire DJ-ed night? On average, how proficient are the dancers there? Which kind of stuff do they mostly like to hear? Classic Swing? Post-war Jazz? Etc. If you can answer these questions, or...

[Answered] I Want to Be Happy, John Reynolds' Hollywood HS

I feel I should know the title of this song by John Reynolds' & his Hollywood Hotshots. However, I cannot figure it out. FYI this was played for the finals of an amateur Collegiate Shag contest in Burbank, CA.

Second one is "Them There Eyes".
Thank you for the second one. After having browsed a bunch of Django's recordings on Spotify, I believe that the first one is "Dinette".

[Answered] Two songs by the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet (live)

I'm trying to figure out the titles of two songs played by the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet in 2009 for an amateur Balboa contest in the L.A area. I emailed Gonzalo, but he is on tour. So I may get a faster response from this forum. :) BTW, this was an edition of the almost weekly event I co-produce/host...

If I did not skip anything, the last part of the clip has segments of the following three songs:

1. Baby Won't You Please Come Home, Jimmie Lunceford & his Orchestra
2. On the Sunny Side of the Street, Lionel Hampton & his O.
3. I Love the Winter Weather, Fats Waller
