i had this problem before. whatever database file that it's using for playlists is read-only, corrupted, or otherwise fried. Just delete it I guess or otherwise reinstall.

what do you use for a music cataloging/management software? Jriver media center used to be it for me but it started locking up all the time despite my very best efforts and I was very upset. They returned my money so I guess that was very nice, but that still leaves me without particularly good soft...

I think it grows on you, like people's faces or names.
I don't know how many songs I can keep in my head, I will always recognize them when played, oftentimes even which artist played it, but sometimes I won't be able to conjure them up off hand.
