I haven't caught Clark Terry in about a year, but I've caught him doing Mumbles twice, and I'd love to have the chance to catch it on a dance floor!

Interesting typo at the end of the Frankie Manning interview on that Washington Post link.
Frankie Manning: I try to excercise regularly. At this age I just have to stretch my bone out.

I always try to frame my new selections - either within a group of known favorites or whenever energy is highest. I think that's a really good guideline. When I hear something new that I like, I always think about what other songs I like that might be good to segue it into. At least for starters. I...

A question for all those who've had a gig on Yehoodi radio. What determines your 4 hour set? Do you just put your A-game on? Do you try and throw in lots of rare stuff to wow us, take chances, play a some of the favorites (even though some of us would call those songs "overplayed") or just...

If we're all proponents for live music, maybe we should all stop DJing, take up some instruments and start a band.

Perhaps not a DJ post, but I love it when a live band can interject a bop melody from time to time in a swing standard. I know Lindy Hop Heaven throws Blue Monk into one of their songs. I've heard at least another band or two riff off of Blue Monk. It may be bop but it fits in a standard blues arran...

One thing I've taken to doing since I started singing is listening to many different versions of the same song, even the ones I may not like. I find that the more 'suggestions' I hear in other vocal and instrumental versions of a song, the more I can learn and hopefully pull out of my bag of tricks ...

I was Station Manager at my college radio Station, WSJU, for two years and had a successful alternative rock show. Following college, I worked at WNEW-FM for about 2 years. I did some producing and board oping. Some of the best Rock and Roll DJs worked there. A few of them are in Cleveland's Rock Ha...

I try and stay away from Rockhouse and Hardtimes, since it's just a tad overplayed around here.

But not many people out here have touched 'Swanee River Rock' or 'You Are My Sunshine.' I also have been playing stuff from the Chronological Classics, which I believe came out recently.

Yeah, I remember this being one of the first threads when the site went up.

I found the link. Putting it in here since it is a bit informative and perhaps some of the original posters may have changed their opinions on the matter.
