If he's using phpbb2 he might try going to www.phpbb.com and searching the mod database for "security question". I had the problem once upon a time and that solved it.

You could also upgrade to phpbb3 which is supposed to have better spam protection.

Instead of two mixers (1 DJ, 1 band) you might consider going with a Mackie 1402 board. It's light weight, will mix a band just fine, and you can DJ off it. It'll be a lot smaller than having a DJ board and band board.

I have a set of Mackie 450s and their bigger brother the 1521s. The 450s are great. They're easy to carry and mount on tripods with a single person and they provide incredible sound for their size.
