One of the labels that calls itself Past Perfect is up on eMusic now. It is this one http://pastperfect.com/, not the mysterious german label of the same name that sells lots of classic swing at cheap prices at places like Half Price Books. That being said, this album might interest some of you, htt...

Regarding a West Coast oriented group, there is the all_SwingDJ YahooGroup. It is not hard to be approved for the group, you do have to submit a list of ten songs each month and need to be a DJ who plays some form of swing music. They have a liberal definition of swing (compared to here). However, t...

Kansas City - The Song

Since I could not find a thread about the song, I figured I would start one. The inspiration is this post from the Tuwa Shanty Blog. http://tuwa.blogspot.com/2006/06/roots-canal-goin-to-kansas-city.html Obviously, a heavily recorded song. I even own a commercially released CD that is nothing by diff...

Victrola broke up, but the principals of the band (Alice and Ben) are in a newer band called ACME Song Company. They play gigs in Austin and have one coming up Friday. If you are serious about buying the CD, I can email Alice and Ben and see if they can bring one to their gig on Friday. I think the ...

Just about every other style of popular music has radio edits, dance remixes, etc... The practices of cutting solos out, trimming a length of the tracks are pretty similar to the long standing practice of cutting a song so it will fit better on a radio playlist. Somebody can be a purist about it and...

Is it obscure? Where have you heard it? How do you define slow?

For example, you could be describing "Li'l Darlin', but that song is on a lot of CDs and pretty common, I figure you are looking for something much more rare.

A lot of songs match your description.

Pet peeve as a DJ, when the venue either doesn't have a monitor for the DJ or the equipment is positioned behind the speakers so I can't hear how good/bad or loud/quiet the sound to the audience is. While a sound check at the beginning of the night is great, it's usually done when the hall is empty...

I think most of the dancers would be lost during a musician based six degree contest like that. If the room were full of DJs, it would make more sense. A musician oriented contest would require a lot of explaining from the mic, who the players were, etc... At that point, the dancers might be more an...
