I don't consider it a drain on the energy at all. Perhaps I don't know what you mean or I am just too "American" on this issue, but I don't want or need to be "the show," so I don't mind people sitting onstage at all. Here in Austin, it actually breaks down barriers and makes it ...

Exactly. I really didn't mean any offense. Just pointing something out. :-)

If anything I was suggesting a CAPITALIST approach... he who best equips themselves and offers the best product at the best price wins. I might be mistaken as to your intent, but it at least looked more like you initiated a Soviet-style bullying into a centralized concept under the guise of limited...

No one but you has their tongue in their cheek?

You mean like the "Laptop DJing" and "When I get a laptop" threads that are both active and just two or three threads down from this one?

Ripping MP3s of vintage music in mono

ITunes has a setting to rip variable bitrate MP3s in mono, not stereo. (Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Importing -> Setting (Custom) -> Channels (Stereo or Mono). Doing so saves a tremendous amount of space: the resulting MP3s are less than half the size. (You can either save the space at the sa...

Another option for those who insist/need to stick to CDs: Get your own dual CD setup! Of course they could , but that's only if they care that much. I'm just proposing that sometimes, a scene's best DJs aren't into the DJing enough to spend that kind of money on it. We've got one here--I won't name...

I find that playing songs to offend all people equally is much easier than trying to please everyone. The complaints are only marginally higher, but I don't worry nearly as much. Did you consider that the complaints didn't go up because the people who don't like the music just quit coming or are to...

So what are people's opinions on the ipod dj? It's obviously the most portable way to carry your music, and you have the ability to create playlists on the fly (although I don't think you can edit it after a song has been added). How is the sound quality compared to a laptop or external sound card?...

Heck, if you discount the request angle, maybe were are already there, just have a cheap flash memory player or some other device on hand with music in case something goes wrong. I didn't even THINK about how much easier it would be to have an IPod Nono or even a cheaper player (or two) handy as a ...

Another of my laptops has an optical drive, but I remove it to put in a second battery. So, I trade an optical drive for 6 additional hours of battery life. I didn't even know they made such things. Great, more toys to spend money on. Not that I need to spend the money, but hey, it's an excuse to b...

(Actually, I think he was looking for more specific feedback from people who actually listened to his sets. Swifty has been DJing longer than most of the people on this board, and he has a huge collection. He probably just doesn't want to get in a rut.)

I find that laptop DJs are less accomodating of requests. They're stuck with what they have. They can't accomodate CDs, and it's often too hard to do equipment swaps. Your laptop doesn't have an optical CD drive? (Oh my God, I just said the same thing as Reuben!) The laptop at least allows the lazy...
