This is why every sound system should have a hard limiter setup just before the amps to ensure that no signal ever exceeds the thermal capabilities of the speaker cabinets. It might sound crappy, but at least the speakers will be protected. Isn't that kind of at odds with the whole $20 USB stick th...

The issue is a shortening of lifespan of the speaker systems you plug into. Sure, for a few hours here and there, it's probably not a big deal. Over the life of the system, it can significantly reduce the operational lifespan. You can drive a car in 1st gear all the time and never see an issue, but ...

In general, I would agree with that, however I found the output of the cheapy USB sticks distorts as the volume goes up. That distortion results in clipped peaks on the output. Those clipped peaks dump extra power into the speakers and can damage them. (Power is the area under the curve, so if you h...

Also, if you end up using Traktor for cue/play, it'll only output to a single device, so a USB option like the Turtle Beach won't get you cue capability.

Piece. Of. Junk. I've got oscilloscope shots somewhere, if you want me to post 'em. KitKat - no, there are USB options, but none of them cost $25. Native Instruments sells one, as does Numark. Both of them are fine. I just prefer a card-slot based one because it's one less thing that's floating arou...

Make sure you have a backup of your music, etc., if your external is your primary source. Portable external drives tend to take more abuse than regular drives, so they're more likely to fail.

(Of course, that's good advice in general.)

Yeah, but they're still not available in the US, which means you folks in Australia and Europe are far better off than we Americans are, as usual. :)

Entry level: http://www.zzounds.com/item--GMNPS121X
Low level: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHVMX100USB (has a USB input!)

This is what I own: http://www.zzounds.com/item--NUMC3USB

There's all sorts of stuff in the middle, but I'd wager that Gemini will probably suit your needs.

- check your gear and bring backup cables. Make sure everything works. I also avoid getting new software or gear that changes the way I DJ - I like to go to a more challenging gig with strong skills and a familiar procedure. But I tend to get stressy, so that might just be a rule for me to follow. ...

I have an Echo Indigo DJx, which is ExpressCard so YMMV. Very few modern laptops have any kind of card slots whatsoever.

The long interview was with Steven "Dr. Feelgood" Watkins who is currently in Oakland, CA.

And yeah - the monthly format can be a real challenge. I keep thinking, though, if I were to ever want to get on live FM radio, that I wouldn't have the luxury of pushing out when things were busy.

Okay, so I haven't posted here in ages, but there are THREE episode available to listen to since the last post. Check them out - Ep #6 has a great feature on how to deal with taking those "non-blues" songs that people have gravitated toward and get the same effects with actual blues. Ep #7...
